On Thursday, May 12, the
volunteers wheeled and
drove 19 Maitland Manor
--residents up South Street to
the Livery for a tour of the
Science Circus. On this tour
were Dr. Metosh,- Vicky
Purdy, Russell Robson, Mrs.
Alexis Erskine, Olive Gaunt,
Bert Hansford, Dell Mullin,
Dolly Bruce, Sarah Swan,
Ursula Hebert, Luella Gow,
Phoebe Young, Irenetarter,
Clarence Salisbury, Em-
maline Zinn, CaziMir
Domanski, Helen Fulford,
Linus Poechman, Acie Blake
• and Era Caroling. Behind the
wheels were Rita Tobey,
• Lorne Hyde, Bill Ross, Lucy
Martin, Mona Rohl, Shirley
Little, Evelyn Middel, Gail
• McHardie, Elien Connelly,
Marcella
Madge and Eileen
Beauchemin.
After a brief detour to The
Tee Cream Doctor. everyone
headed back to the Manor.
Jean Elliott organized a
group from the Nile and
Dungannon United Churches
to attend and entertain at the
monthly birthday party. A.
varietyof songs were sung
and the program also includ-
ed a few duets and solos.
Celebrating birthdays in
May were: Ina Collins,
Florence Moody, Earl
Cooper, -Olive Gaunt, Emily
Elliott, Alberta Hansford,
Harry . Downie, Laura
Pollock, Joe Shaddick,
Luella Gow, Phoebe' Easter -
brook and Mrs. Procter.
• The Third Goderich Girl
Guides visited in May and
presented the residents with
a delightful program of dan-
cing and singing accom-
__panted by guitar and piano
playing.
The staff, residents and
volunteers wish to welcome
a • new resident, Emma
Bromley, to Maitland
Manor.
Eleven residents attended
the concert presented by the
80member Lasalle Secon-
dary School band from Sud-
bury at G.D.C.I. on Friday,
May 27. '"
On May 12, a meeting of
the volunteers was held to
discuss some of the upcom-
ing events. June 19 to June 26
is Senior Citizen's -Week and
Maitland Manor will be
holding an Open House on
Sunday, June 19 which is
also Father's Day. The staff
and residents wish to invite
everyone to visit and tour the
Manor. Entertainment will
be provided by various per-
formers.
Also in June the volunteers
and residents are holding a
wheel-a-thon to raise money
for the fifth annual Ontario
Nursing Home Association
Heart Jamboree sponsored
by the Ontario Heart Foun-
dation. We will be pushing
wheelchairs around a two
kilometer route and will be
asking people to sponsor us
on this ride. The date for this
event, weather permitting,
• is June 21, the first day of
summer. If there is rain on
the 21st, the wheel-a4hon
will be delayed to either the
22nd or 23rd. In order to
make this event a success,
we require more volunteers
(pledge sheets are available
at the Manor) and, Of course,
we need many sponsors. if
you wish to sponsor us or
assist us, please call Cathy
