BIRTHDAY
CLUB
Hi,
I would like to join your
Birthday Club again this
year. I was eight years old
on June 4. I am in Mrs.
Brown's Grade 2 class at
Robertson School.

LOOKING
BACK
In its first yeal under
public ownership, the old
West Street rink has actually
made money. After paying
taxes and insurance, there
was more than enough
money left to pay for a coat
of paint on the roof.
Dr. A.T. Enunerson, 74,
who has practised medicine
in Goderich for more than 30
years, has died of a heart
attack. When he first came
here, he was in partnership
with Dr. Walter Turnbull.
The price of bread has
been raised one cent by
Goderich bakers. The new
price is now eight cents a
loaf.
he northern part of the
old Black Hotel, one of the
landmarks of Dungannon, is
to be torn down. The
structure, about 80 years old,
is now owned by Robert
- Armstrong, the genial mail
courier between Goderich
and Dungannon.
Operated by the Lee
family for almost half a
century, the well-known
Sunset Hotel opens on
Monday with a new owner,
William Pavlik, formerly of
Kitchener. The opening
marks the first time the hotel
will be operated on a year
round basis instead of just in
the summer months.
With the opening of the
Green Acres track at Port
Albert, sports cars swarmed
like hornets around Goderich
over the weekend. A formal
invitation meet held
Saturday was not open to the
public but a public meet- is
scheduled for July 5.
Victoria Street is due to get
a $36,200 new look which will
cost the town $9,763. The
balance will be paid by the
Ontario Department of High-
ways.
A delegation of milk
. producers asked town
council Friday to pas g a by-
law prohibiting the bringing
in of processed milk from
outside the district. Milk
being brought in from
London by a local store is
threatening the incomes of
the farmers who supply milk
to the two Goderich dairies,
council was told.
The Huron County Board
of Education was, told
Monday it should trust the
judgement of its teachers
when deciding if literary
pieces to be used in high
school classrooms are fit for
educational purposes. Three
books, Catcher in the Rye by
J.D. Salinger, The Diviners
by Margaret Laurence and
Of Mice and Men by John
Steinbeck, have been
deemed blasphemous and
obscene by a group of
parents from Kingsbridge
who have started a cam-
paign to have them banned.
A motion to approve in
principle the future
development of a fitness
centre by Champion Read
Machinery Company in the
Industrial Park area was
passed by the Goderich
Economic Development
Committee PridaY. June 2.
