(photo by Darrell Kloeze) London to host first annual fund-raising lOKm road race The first annual Forest Ci- ty 10 KM Road Race, hosted by the City of London, will be held on Saturday, June 4 at 9 a.m. The certified 10,000 metre course begins and ends at J.W. Little Stadium, University of Western On- , tario. This is the first road race of its kind in London and the organizing committee. hopes to attract between 15.0-2000 entrants. The race offers medals and trophies in 16 dif- ferent categories, including ages'from 14 and under to 60 and over, wheelchair athletes and corporate and open teams: . The course is sanctioned by the O.T.F.A., and with the large field of runners ex: petted, it should prove a highly entertaining and com- petitive run ' for both the more serious runner and the more casual participant who prefers to run for fun. Incentive awards are of- fered to all entrants who raise $35 or more in pledge money. Proceeds from the p1ledges will be' donat d to the Thames Valley' Children's Centre. The. It real- ly isn't bad ladies! The first ladies' night was May 17 and started off with one hour lessons before, given by Jim Costello and John Brown. ft is rumoured Joanne was a real threat on the courts with her Sting rac- quet. The theme this year is "Take A Friend Boating.'' The National Boating Week program is spearhead. ed by Allied Boating. Canada, the national organization representing -most-major manufacturers, -importers and distributors of boats, engmes and boating products, in co-operation with trade associations in Ontario,. Quebec and British Columbia and the nearly 3,000 marine dealers and marina operators across Canada. Horse places second in event On Sunday. Mav 15, Cap- puccino, a six year old thoroughbred owned by Dr. and Mrs. Desmond Leeper participated in his first event this season. Despite the poor weather conditions, 78 horses were in- terested in this competition which took place at the Caledon Hunt Club in the Caledon Hills north of Toron- to. The event consists of three phases, . dressage, cross country jumping and stadium jumping. It is a demanding sport for both horse and rider,. since the three phases must be com- pleted in one day. Points are accumulated at the end of the phase. In this competition "Ciao" finished in second place overall, an incredible plac- ing for this relatively inex- perienced horse...
