Members of the Goderich
Branch of the Women's
Institute met , at MacKay
Centre on Thursday, May 5
at 2:30 p.m. with President
Mrs. Helen Morley
presiding.
The secretary -treasurer
gave her report and, as this
was the first meeting of the
new year, the 1983-84
programs were distributed
to the 16 members present.
The roll call answered by
members was, "How to be
thoughtful of others".
Thankyou cards were read
from members who had been
The annual district
meeting of West Huron will
be held in Wingham on May
30 in the Presbyterian
church. Delegates appointed
to attend were the president,
district director and two
branch members.
It was also decided to
continue giving a prize to the
two students with the highest
standing in proficiency, one
from Victoria School and one
from St. Mary's School,
Grade 8.
A minute of silence was
observed for a long time
member, Mrs. James
Campbell who died recently.
Special speaker for the
meeting was Shirley Keller,
editorial: co-ordinator of the
Goderich Signal -Star. She
gave an interesting history
of her work with the paper,
from the time she joined it
when it was located on West
Street and how it has grown
over the years to be a leading
weekly newspaper.
Members thoroughly
enjoyed her visit and her
genial personality.
Tea and cookies were then
served by Erma Anderson
and her helpers.
Institute
donates
plaque
The May meeting of the
Dungannon Women's Insti-
tute was held on Thursday
evening, May 5 at the home
of Winnifred Girvin. Twelve
members answered the roll
call with their tip for fitness.
Correspondence, read by
Mrs. Graham McNee, in-
cluded an invitation from
Lucknow Women's Institute
June 14 and an invitation to
the Huronview Blossom Tea
and Bake Sale, June 1.
The treasurer reported a
plaque had been donated to
Brookside School from the
Dungannon W.I. for the
highest proficiency in Grade
8.
The District Annual is May
30 at St. Andrews Presby-
terian Church, Wingham.
Delegates will be Winnifred
Girvin, Mrs. Graham McNee
and district director, Mrs.
George Errington.
Pennies for friendship
were collected, two cents for
every tooth. A donation was
granted to the Dungannon
and Area Kinsmen for play-
ground equipment on the lot
in Dungannon, beside the
former Olive Blake property,
now owned by Deb and Phil
Young.
Mrs. Fred Young gave the
motto, there is no better.

reaching out to help some-

Winnifred Girvin introduc-
ed the guest speaker, Kathy
Pentland, daughter of Yvon-
ne and Ronald Pentland. She
showed slides of her trip to
Australia and New Zealand
last January 12 to February
13 with the Junior Farmers.
