Broadway...
From page 51.
"We had a whale of a time." he said. Slanging, dancing,
socializing until the small hours of the morning, John was
enjoying what he did best.
The boat sailed into Ha1ilfax on May 27, 1950 and John
remembers, "I never winked and eye or cried a tear in
Holland, but it was difficult to leave all the young people 1
had met on the boat."
Seaforth is where John first settled, then to Goderich
Township. In less than a year's time his family also
crossed the ocean to make a new home m Canada.
In the meantime John met Grace, now his wife.
"That," John smiles, "is one of the reasons I never got
to Broadway."
You'll have no trouble spotting John at the Klompen
Feest. He still carries his accordian and will be playing
and singing with the Festival Singers. He's been involved
with the Klompen Feest Singers for three years now.
John will be assisted by his nephew, pianist Ronnie
Greidanus. Garry Shoemaker of Goderich will be paying
the baritone and song director will be Dick Roo da of
Clinton.
John is also a member of the Goderich area men's choir,
The Harbouraires. He's one of the organists at the Clinton
Christian Reformed Church and plays the accordian and
the baritone with the Goderich Laketown Band.
The spotlights of New York may never have shone on
John Greidanus, but he is definitely one of Clinton's most
popular musicians.
