Quite a few residents' are interested in woodworking, but more volunteer help • is needed with this activity. Anyone willinig to• spare a couple of hours a week? If you are interested in becotn- ,ing a volunteer at Maitland Manor, please contact Cathy Wiebe; Activity Director, at 524-7324. Possibly high. school students would be willing to drop by occa- sionally to read to someone or just to visit. The residents certainly appreciate it as the .aster parade day' can he very long for so meow Who is bedridden, Qnite a number of the residents do not have relatives living close by, thus do not often have visitors. You can" remedy this. Recently I read a quote that I would like to share with you; It is by Mrs. Jonas Salk, wife of the renown BactorolotIst. "Older ple's paricipation 1►• in our lives gives our children a sense of continuity — a sense of generations, of the flow and ebb of life. This perspective is one that children absorb: A. realiza- tion that age means ex- perience, that age need not. be feared; a dim recognition that parents, too, were once children. Today we have suburban developments where children of young families are growing up without seeing old people as. part of their day-to-day liv- ing. it seems to me that children' need the natural balance of both young and old — and contact with their grandparents helps...to pro- vide this." The Block Parent signs have finally arrived after a long delay and applicants may pick them up at Victoria Public School (south entrance) on Thursday, May 5 between the hours of 7 and 9 p.m. Here, Joy McKee, one of the mem- bers of the Block Parent committee in Goderich, displays one of the signs. (Photo by Joanne Buchanan) Huronview news Pen pals write Sunday morning worship was held in the Huronview chapel with Rev. Norman Pick in charge. A duet was sung by Elsie Henderson and Margaret McQueen. An an- them was sung by the choir. Flowers were placed in the chapel by Sarah Carter and Rhoda McKercher. Monday afternoon Marie Flynn and the Huron Strings provided old time music. They played many favorites old and new for the pleasure of the residents. In the evening there was music appreciation with Bruce Cookson. He also brought along a number of letters from the Grade 4 students to be distributed to the residents. The idea of this is for a resident and stu- dent to correspond with one another and establish a pen pal relationship. It is a great idea and should be a lot of fun. Elsie Henderson played piano music for Special Care residents when they met in the activity room Tuesday afternoon for games and ex- ercises. Refreshments were. served. Caravan Clothes from London was here Wednes- day. Racks of garments for men and women were on display. It was a great time for residents and staff to stock up for spring, or just add to their present war- drobe. Ed Stiles' from Goderich was here on Thursday and played selec- tions old and new on the chapel organ for the listen- ing pleasure of the residents. Huronview would like to sincerely thank the legions, Wingham Branch 180, Clin- ton Branch 140 and Goderich Branch 109 for their generous donations to Huronview toward the pur- chase of a new van. Residents extend a warm welcome to Mr. William Henry Nurse of Goderich, who has come to reside at Huronview. To the families of the late Mrs. Lily Pilkington and Mrs. Gladys Wallis, Huron - view expresses their sincere sympathy. These two ladies were residents of Huronview and died last week. BY Si(M4Wirl ' residents of Maitland Manor enjoyed U. visit on Easter Sunday from the Christian Reformed Church and Sunday School. They sang hymns. and. distributed Easter cards. Each year, the Manor holds its very, • ow Easter Parade and this_ year's parade was a tremendous success. While the residents did not stroll down - Fifth Avenue, they were,,none-the- less decked out in their Easter bonnets with all the frills upon them (put there by the residents' themselves). Audrey Kerr divas transformed into the Easter Bunny and Gord Har- rison :was at the piano for a sing -song. The kitchen staff prepared and served after- noon tea to all participants. Dr. Roy Lomas recently spoke to the Discussion Group with regards to `Health Aspects and Diet for Senior Citizens'. On April 18, a Chinese night was held complete with Oriental cuisine and movies about China. Further to last month's list of regular visitors to the Manor, the Roman Catholic Church was inadvertently omitted. The Rhythm Band enter- tained at the monthly birth day party. Lorne Hyde and Lorene Madge sang a couple of duets. Orah Crawford, a resident, joined in with his strong tenor voice. It was good to have violinist Bill Hughes back from Texas and residents hope Ebb Ross is now feeling better. There were five people celebrating birthdays this month — Margaret Wilson, Dell Dur- nin, Acie Blake, Era Capl- ing, and Orah Crawford. Era Capling is a new resi- dent this month. Welcome to Maitland Manor Era. In the craft department residents were busy making ducks for Easter out of pom poms. Over the Easter weekend each table in the dining room was decorated with a duck and basket of Easter eggs. They were very popular with the residents (staff too). Beads, old jewellery, felt, yarn, Legg nylon holders, pipe cleaners, buttons, rib- bon, marbles, etc. — if you have any of these items lying around your house and 'have no need of them - the Manor does!
