Magie "Then I decided to go back to school," he says, and he travelled to California in the late 1960s where he returned to school and wound up as an insurance agent. It was a career he pursued upon his Family is topic The topic of the April meeting of the Evening Unit of North Street U.C.W. was "The Family." Glenns Vander Ende as convener, Marion Shaw, Doris Hamilton, Phyllis McTaggart and Joan Stadelmann each read of family life in Bible times to illustrate that todays fancily and its problems have similarities: the story of Moses, the first adopted baby; Hagar as a single Mother; Noah and the Ark - a story , of conviction and dedication amidI ridicule; and Mary and Martha, two different examples of Chris- tian women. Guest speaker, introduced by Lois McGill, was Shirley Keller, Editorial Co - Ordinator of the Signal -Star. Mrs. Keller's topic was "Family Life" and she referred members to Colos- sians III, verses 18-21, which give the Bible's rules for family living - the best basis for building a strong mar- riage and family. "We live in a small town with a great deal of poten- tial. We have all the benefits of a small town and its way of life, yet• if` we look' into" homes and hearts we find a full range of miseries. Most people expect only fleeting moments of happiness and are constantly searching for "something", unaware there is a deep abiding peace and joy the world cannot give. It is there through all lifes pro- blems and grief," said Mrs. Keller,. "There are .all sorts of groups doing worthwhile projects but most Church people fail to set an example for a happy peaceful way of life. Is it because we fail to understand ourselves? We must tell others by our ac- tions that God's saving grace is a practical power for everyday living. We must encourage by example. If we read our Bibles, we find what God -says about all the things we encounter in our daily lives from work ethics to pornography. It is a demanding, tiring job to live up to our conviction that God's plan is superior to that GRACE COMMUNITY CHURCH Huron Centennial " .School BRUCEFIELD, ONT. 482-9260,565-3'341 and 236-4979 10:00 - Family Bible School 11:00 Monn PREACHING THE Speaker: Randy DOCTRINES of GRACE of the world and to demonstrate our trust in that plan. There are 15 churches in this town - 'how many of the population are in a church on any given Sun- day?" Mrs. Keller gave a glimp- , se of the personal lives of her own family, where a father's example of family worship and prayer prevails. During a . short business session conducted by Lois McGill, President of the Evening Unit, the plans for the May 13 luncheon .were finalized. • SUPERIOR MEMORIALS ESTABLISHED OVER 50 YEARS Goderich Area Representative ROBERT McCALLUM 11 CAMBRIA ROAD GODERICH 524-7345 Clinton Area Representative MICHAEL FALCONER 153 HIGH STREET CLINTON 482-9441 The H ha'f .Cptinmunities in the Goderich area have learned recentlyof alarming new developments in the campaign Rf persecution being directed directet at their sister Baha'i community in Iran. Nancy Flynn, secretary of the Baha'i community of Goderich Township, said, "We recently learned that the supreme religious tribunal w Iran had ap- proved the death sentences of 22 more Baha'is and that three more Baha'is were executed by hanging , on March 12, including a woman. "Now we have been told by Baha'i headquarters at the United Nations that the Iranian authorities, in an effort to further terrorize the Baha'i community, will not release the names of those under sentence of death. Thus, even the 100 Baha'i prisoners in Shiraz do not' know which ones among them have been condemned or who will be next. This barbaric psychological. torture is reminiscent of Nazi techniques."
