The regular meeting of the
Goderich Garden Club was
held April 20 at Robertson
School. President Norma
• Hazlitt presided. There was
anattendance of 50 people at
ths meeting.
Minutes • of the March
meeting were read and ap-
pitqed. • The treasurer's
report was given by Eileen
O'Brien.
Correspondence included
a letter from the Goderich
Arts Foundation advising
members The Livery would
have rooms available for
meetings after the opening
June 18:
A flower arranging course
is to be given in Owen Sound
June 29. Anyone interested
can pick up an application
form. District 8 of the Hor-
ticulture Society has a
photographic competition.
Anyone wanting to learn
• about the different classes
can contact the secretary.
A letter from Mrs. Gwen
Kiar was read asking if the
Green Thumbers and the
Garden Club would plant
some flower beds at Cam-
bridge Park. It was decided
to undertake this project.
The Ontario Horticulture
Society will hold its annual
meeting in Hamilton June
15, 16, and 17. Elsa Haydon
has been appointed the
delegate to attend this
meeting.
Jean Barnett spoke on the
meeting that The Green
Thurnbers held the first Fri-
day in April. There were
many interested young peo-
ple and the membership is
now 50.
Some of the upcoming
events for the Garden Club
include an auction of plants
and flowers in Robertson
School auditorium May 18 at
7:30 p.m.; a bus trip to Went-
worth Pioneer Village
Rockton, Dundurn Castle
and the Royal Botanical
Gardens in Hamilton on
June 6; .and the regular
meeting June 15 when Mr.
Langan from Clinton will
show slides. One June 22 the
local club will visit Water-
ford Horticulture Society.
The Waterford group had
been in Goderich in June
1982 and this is a return visit.

Jean Barnett introduced
• the .guest speaker for the
evening, Maisie Bray from
Lions Head. Mrs. Bray has
been District Director for a
number of years. She spoke
on, the Constitution and the
by-laws of the society of
which the president and
secretary have copies. She
also said there are a number
of awards available through
the Ontario Ministry of
Agriculture and Food: a
Junior Service award, a
District Service award, a
Silver Service award, and a
Reward of Merit which is
available to a firm or a large
company (McDonalds has
received one for the
• beautiful- plantings they
have around their
restaurants as has Inco
Metal of Sudbury which
cleared up the pollution pro-
blem in that area). Mrs.
Bray also said members
should sell the Horticulture

Jack and Marion Warren
brought a squash that was of
a different variety and Mr..
Warren explained how they
cook it and spoke of its ex-
cellent flavour. They also
brought some dead cacti
wood and a dried plume of a
date itahn. These items were
put with the door prize ar-
ticles and drawn for. The
winners of the door prizes
were Irene Todd, Dorothy
Feagan, Jessie Beach, Joan
Huyck, Mary Longmire, and
Peg Lumsden.
Jean McKee had
geraniums for sale and she
told of some of the varieties
she brought with her.
After the adjournment of
the meeting, a delicious
lunch was served by the
coMmittee.
