On Saturday, May 14, 1983,
the Ontario Liberal Women's
Perspective Advisory Com-
mittee is sponsoring a Con-
ference, "Women's
Perspectives '83", the theme
of which is "Look at the Past
- Plan for the Future".
The Conference is open to
all, and .will be held in the
Concert Hall at the Royal
York Hotel in Tor nto, from
9:30 a.m. to 6 pa hile itis
sponsored by . an Ontario
Liberal Committee, every
effort has been made in in
viting guest speakers and,
panelists to keep the Con-
ference as non-partisan as
possible. The objective is to
provide a forum for debate
and discussion, led by ex-
perts in various fields.
Registration - fee for the
Conference is $25.00
(including luncheon), $30.00
after May 6, and forms are
available from my office.
Guest speakers at the Con-
ference are Monica
Townson, economist and
author of "The Canadian
Woman's. Guide to Money",
Linda Silver Dranoff,
Lawyer, Writer and Activist
- who some of you will
recognize from the "Ask a
Lawyer" section of
"Chatelaine", and David
Peterson, Leader of the On-
tario Liberal Party.
Monica Townson will
speak at 10 a.m., Linda
Silver Dranoff at luncheon,
and David Peterson will
wrap up the formal. part of
the proceedings at 4 p.m.
This 'will be followed by an
informal reception.
There are to be five
workshops, lasting 90
minutes, morning and after-
noon,, with participants
giyentirbpportut>tity'tii'par-
ticipate in two, since the
workshops are repeated.
The workshops are as
follows:
WORK: The potential and
problems of the workplace
for today's woman include -
equal pay and opportunity
sexual harassment day
care - micro -technology.
Based upon a wide-ranging
questionnaire, participants
will set the tone and tempo of
this workshop, led by expert
panelists.
BARRIERS: The barriers
to greater liberation and suc-
cess for women are many
and varied, tangible and in-
tangible - psychological -
societal - traditional = educa-
tional. Real or imagined; ex-
ternal or self-imposed - how
can these barriers 'be over-
come?
INDEPENDENCE: For
the woman who has had in-
dependence thrust upon her -
the divorcee or widow of any
age - the motherstruggling
to raise her children alone -
the woman: whose children
have "grown and flown"
who wishes to expand her
horizons. Panelists will offer
guidance on financial, emo-
tional, career . and
sociaVlifestyle needs.
VIOLENCE: Almost dai-
ly, we hear tragic and horri-
fying accounts of - domestic
abuse of women and children
- sexual assault and "street
violence" - proliferation of
pornography which has
elements of hatred and
cruelty. What can be done?
What must be done? What
can WE do?
SURVIVAL: Are we
sabotaging our environment
and health beyond repair?
What is happening to - our
air - our food - our water - our
world? Panelists with en-
vironmental expertise will
discuss, and answer ques-
tions about, developments
which affect our very sur-
vival. -
