Easter is a celebration of Christ's resurrection
Last of all he was seen of
me also, as of one born out of
due time." (I Corinthians
15:8).
St. Paul gives us a list of
resurrection appearances of
Jesus. Some of these are
recorded in the Gospels,
others are not. Then he tells
us that there is no doubt at
all concerning this evidence,
because he has seen Jesus
himself.
The phrase "as one born
out of due time" means
literally "like an abortion".
The New English Bible
translates it, "this birth of
mine was monstrous for I
had persecuted the church of
God." J. B. Phillips
translates it, "one born ab-
normally late" - though one

sense, "as though I was born
when no one expected it",
and adds a footnote, "An
allusion to the abnormal,
sudden and surgical nature
of Paul's birth into the
apostolic family." (The
word "surgical" is in
italics.) Thus reference is
made to the extraordinary
circumstances of St. Paul's
conversion on the Damascus
road.
Although St. Paul con-
fesses himself to be the least
of the apostles, yet he will.
have us cast no doubt on the
authenticity of his
apostleship, as evidenced by
his own conversion by the
risen Christ. And so it is with
every Christian.
At Easter we celebrated
the resurrection of Jesus

Victoria Street Church.
U.C.W. general meeting was
held on April 4 at the church.
Mrs. Verna Robertson, past
president opened the
meeting with a poem entitl-
ed, "The Cross in her Bible."
Harmony Circle, Unit I,
being responsible for Devo-
tions and program,
presented an Easter skit -
"What does the cross, mean
to you?"
Mrs. Betty Williams, as
commentator; interviewed
several folks on the street, as
to what the cross, meant to
them.
Several hymns were sung,
during the interviews, and
Mrs. Muriel Harrison
favoured with several
Easter songs.
Scripture passages were
read by Mrs. Irene
Freeman.
The minutes and
treasurer's report were read
and approved. Cards will be
sent to sick and Shut-in folks.

Christ from the dead. He
continues to bevery much
alive in -our world. And we
have seen Him, and have
become therefore His
authentic apostles. The
Phillips translation also
makes sense because we,
some 1950 years after, are
"born abnormally late".
Time is not a factor; it does
not make us less converted,
nor our apostleship less
authentic, nor our witness to
the risen Christ less.reliable.
