Councilawards tender
Fuel tenders were the first
order of business considered
by Colborne Township
Council at their regular
meeting held on April 5.
Because of his association as
an employee of one of the
tendering companies,
Deputy -Reeve Vanstone
declared his conflict of in-
terest and abstained from
discussion and voting on the
tender award. Tenders
received from Imperial Oil
Ltd. (Mel Bogie, agent),
Edward Fuels Ltd., and
Texaco. Canada (Vic Walden
Fuels Ltd.) were opened and
the contract was awarded to
the low tender of Edward
Fuels Ltd. :,L,
Keith and Joanne Homan,
owners of Meneset Trailer
Park, appeared before
Council and questioned the
reason for the apparent high
taxes in the township. Mr.
Homan said that his, tenants
complain that they don't see
the services that they are
taxed for. He would like to
see a cut-back in road work
for a year or two. Council
explained that any- cut-back
in road construction would
be a more expensive move as
etctensive re -building would
be required later.
The road construction
being undertaken now is
aimed at getting poorly built
roads in the township built
up so that winter main-
tenance will be reduced. As
for servicespaid for by
taxes, council pointed out
that of the total taxes
collected, approximately
31.5 percent are for township
use, while 53 percent goes to
education and 15.5 percent to
Huron County. ' Out of the
township's share, about
$22,000 is paid toward
maintaining the Holmesville
land -fill site and about
$16,300.00 to the Town of
Goderich under the terms of
the fire protection
agreement between the
township and the town.
The treasurer reported
that about $176,000.00, ap-
proximately 80 percent of the
Interim Tax Billings, had
been paid to date and
because this had been the
first attempt at an interim
billing, felt that the response
had been quite good.
A new ball backstop screen
is to be ordered for the new
ball diamond at Benmiller,
and the completion of drains
and field levelling is to be
completed as soon as
weather permits.
The annual road tour by
members of council will, be
undertaken on April 16,.1983.
A request for conveyance
of Parts 11, 12, 13, 14 and 15,
Plan 22830, in Ridgewood
Park, in order that deeds of
correction can be exchanged
between Keith Homan and
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Sandy,
was approved and ordered to
be dealt with as per Huron
County Land Division
'questionnaire.
Approval was given Huron
County Highways Depart-
ment to proceed with an
application to the Ministry of
Natural Resources for a
perr"nft for a wlyside pit in
Part ` Lot 110'i Maitland
Concession. The County
intends t use gravel from
the pit in the construction of
the new bridge replacing
Forrester's bridge at the
south end of the Maitland

residence at . Lot 8, Con-
cession 2 W.D., and to

Park, for renovations and

A request by Mrs. Helen
Stoll, secretary -treasurer,
