The experience of extra -end pressure, however, made the difference as •the A.M.& G .employees' came through with their first extra end victory. The Evaporators were an ex- cellent xcellent addition to the League this year and the foursome of Peggy Young, Jan Ginn, Mark Fischer and Tim Colwell proved they have what it takes to play in this league -skill and humour. The .AM&G Hospital's opponent in the championship match was the G.D:C.I. Teachers No. 1 team of Carl Ziebarth, Del Almeida, Bill Worsen, Doug Bundy and George Sutton. The Teachers earned the right to meet the Hospital by defeating the Victoria & Grey foursome and the Sifto Salt "Maniacs". A very close come -from - behind win over the Maniacs seemed to take a lot out of the Teachers and they did not perform well in the final. But the Hospital did! Led by an almost perfect performance by Richard Ottewell the Hospital unit jumped into an early lead and continued to dominate throughout the match. It was obvious to their opponents that the A.M, & G. Hospital' foursome had had their fill of close contests and this one was going to be different. Congratulations A.M. & G. Hospital. Third prize went to the Maitland Golfers foursome of Kay Duncan, Joanne "Chase The Ace" Lucas, Kay King and skip Eleanor Erskine. This team alternated between curling and cheer leading and even resorted to a little cheese -caking m their final two triumphs. The complex strategy worked as they swept the Silver Brooms aside and then taught .the Elementary Teachers a lesson not soon to be forgotten. The Elementary Teachers's D.D.D.D. + R. Foursome (?) of Donalda Macdonald, Dianne and Don Budnark, Doug Yeo and oddball Ron Ritchie earned their shot at third by defeating the V & G representatives.butwere unable to counter -the"C". strategy 'ofthe Golfers. Fourth prize went to the Sifto Salt "Maniacs" who recovered from their disappointing loss to the Teachers and took out their anger on co-workers, the Sifto Salt Evaporators. Regulars Ed Mundle, Gerry Riseborough and Don Dickie showed no mercy in their final game of the year and claimed the final honour of the bonspiel. In the hunt for fourth prize also were the Victoria and Grey team with a Brenda Tiechart and skip Cathy Hamilton leading the charge and the Champion Office "Silver Brooms' with Paul Mulligan at the helm. The outcome of their match showed the true spirit of this league. First, the Victoria & Grey unit generously let the Silver Brooms claim a victory in their last game of the year while the Silver Brooms allowed the V & G team a chance to win the last end of the year. The generous move of Paul Mulligan and associates cost him fourth place but won him the admiration of his fellow curlers. I'll let you be the judge as to whether he won or lost. To all the Industrial League Curlers, whether you won the trophies or just a free drink, I would like to leave you with these immortal'words and inspiring message: "We lost again" sigh. "Did you try your hardest?" "Sure" "And did you have fun?" "Yeh,.I like curling". "Then that's all that really matters" "Thanks Mom!"
