And when a warm rain fell, there was a 20 degree

There were five out-
standing winners. The first
and happiest winner was
Stuart Davidson who earned
his place by never missing a
chance to "perfect his game.
Jamieson Ribey scored
consistently as he quietly
coached. Jason Garrett,
steadily improving over the
weeks, has become a for-
midable opponent. Barb
Lassaline, top lady on the
score sheet, surprised even
herself - look out next year
everyone. Ed Mundle must
be on the right diet for a
steady eye!
The next group of prize-
winners, we called
"Inspirators",. They could
just as easily have been
winners: Don- Stemp, Faye
Ribey, Paul Beauchemin,
Fraser Huyck, Tanya Jef-
fery, Cod Kerr and Ron
Todgham.

For the third year in a row, the 11111'i
known as The Foresters are the Industrial
consistently good tenni Are -Roger Moore,'

Jamieson Ribey, .1110.1lawhins and CFI
Bogie. To mei) this plate*, the Foresters
had to defeat a team ealle&."Sliper;,_
team with the same name as them; and a
team that also has its name on the Signs/ -
Star Trophy three times.
In the opening game of this challenge,
the Foresters had the Super Shell four-
some of Lynn and Don Edward and
Ardithe and Ed -Brissette to overcame.
This game was an omen for the cham-
pions. It made it clear thatthepath toward
the championship would be harder than
the 'previous two journeys. Both the
Edward and Brissette families curled well
but outstanding work by the Forester front
end of Ribey and Moore carried •the
Foresters to their first triumph of the day.

Foresters had just overcome the statistics
by defeating possibly the finest Viking
team ever produced by G.D.C.I. Now they
set their sights on their male counterparts.
Skip Vicki Culbert used a threefold
strategy of draw, double takeouts and
distraction. The draws were provided by
the keen trio of Fisher, Young and
MacKinnon; the doubles were left to Vicki
and the distraction came from four
dynamic cheerleaders who frequently led
the entire league in the now famous chant
of L.A.D.I.E.S. The unique tactics almost
worked as the game was tied at three
apiece in the final end but skip Bogie was
not to be intimidated as the M.A.L.E.
Foresters got a single point in the last
minute to claim a spot in the championship
game.
Their opponent in the big money contest
was Local 1863. A three time champion of
talented and experienced curlers, - the
Local was ready for the challenge. The
foursome of. Gerry Riley, Charlie
Crawford, Jack Kellough and skip Glen
Falkiner were also tested in their climb to
the top. In perhaps their best game of the
day, the union reps dropped the G.D.C.I.
Teacher No. 2 team of Chris Conner,
Shelley Warr, Bill Garrow and Dave Cloet
5 to 3 in the opening game. Flawless would
be a good word to describe the Local's
performance in this game.
• As is the case in any climb, the nextatep

Unit now stood, m their way. An excellent - •

Three blank ends stalled the game but 0
steal alone by the LOCal opened the contest
up and the fireworks started. A p01° by the
Foresters, a single by the Local, another
pair by Cam & Co. set up an intricate final
end. Nobody choked as each' member
played fine shots but the Foresters were '
just a little crisper and a little- More
precise in their last -end efforts and Local
skip Glen Falkiner was left needing two •
points to tie with only a circus shot
available to him. He almost made it! But
when the rocks stopped sliding the ex-

Viking fivesome of Mark Jeffrey, Anne
Duncan, Fraser Huyck, Dan Durst and

The G.D.C.I. Teachers No. 2 foursome
also bounced back from two very tough'
losses to claim fourth prize honours by
eliminating the Super Shell family in the -
final encounter of the bonspiel With Chris
Connor having the distinction of being the
winning skip. .
The "B" Draw of teams who finished
from ninth to sixteenthplace in the regular
season also went according, to season
statistics as the ninth and tenth placed
teams met in the final match. •
The A.M.& G. Hospital team of Richard
Ottewell, Marty Bond, Craig Cass and Dr.
.Jim Rourke, were thrown screaming into
the Lsecond draw, by -an- incredible four
point Jim Bell shot in the final game of the
regular season. pnce they calmed down,
however; they showed that they were the
best team in this draw. Their first of three
triumphs was against the Champion Office
"Silver Brooms" who imported a U.W.O.
product but to no avail. Their second win
was by far their biggest test. The Sifto
Salt Evaporators, earned the right to
challenge the champion by upsetting the
Maitland Golfers in the first game of the
day. They, almost continued their
