AM&G's Intensive Care. Unit
account X57,000 overdrawn
The Intensive Care Unit bank account
is presently, $57,000 overdrawn, the
Alexandra Marine and General Hospital
Board learned recently. The hospital is
paying a quarter per cent under prime on
this overdraft'. Almost $130,000 in pledges
is still left to come into the ICU account in
1983. Ten thousand dollars is still owing
in pledges from the last quarter of 1982
but almost all of the money from the first In-house study
quarter of 1983 has been received.
HOSPITAL
BRIEFS
Volunteers needed
In au educational session with Theresa
Kirkey of the hospital's dietary depar-
tment at a recent board meeting,
inquiries were made into expanding the
Meals on Wheels program. Presently, 15
hot meals prepared by the hospital's
kitchen staff are served by volunteer
drivers five nights per week at a cost of
$2 per meal to people who have been
referred to the service by local doctors.
If you would like to assist in this ser-
vice as a volunteer driver once every
three weeks between 4 and 5 p.m., con-
tact Claude Kalbfleisch or Olive Knisley.
Shared service
Alexandra Marine and General
Hospital's Dietary Shared Service
program with University Hospital was
terminated on March 31 and
arrangements are now being made for
the provision 'of dietitian services to be
shared with Clinton Public Hospital
several days a week.
Staff inquiry
The Medical Association of Alexandra
Marine and General is presently
inquiring into the services of a visiting
opthalmologist for the local hospital.
The Management Committee of the
AlexandraMarine and;General Hospital
Board is -interested in doing a long term'
planning study for the hospital. The
committee', has invited a regional
representatiye of the Ministry of Health
to a meeting April 26 to assist in this.
"We're going ' to ask her (the
representative) whether we should hire
consultants or do our own study. If an in-
house study is not going to be accepted by
the ministry, there's no sense spending
our time and money doing it," committee
member Bob Dempsey told the board.
An in-house study would include
meetings with 'each department head to
determine in which direction their
departments were going, Dempsey
explained.
Incubator
purchased
An Ohio Isolette Incubator for
newborns has been purchased for
Alexandra Marine and General Hospital
at a cost of $10,500. The incubator was
purchased on an emergency basis since
'the two which the hospital already owned
were no longer functioning. It will be
allocated against the equipment pur-
chases for the 1983-84 fiscal year.

students' work.
UsIng the OAIP is one of the recomenendatioi s`
suggested in a review of grade seven and eight
history taught in the board's schools.
Superintendent of education John McCauley es-
plained to trustees at their March 28 meeting that
OAIP is a province -wide list of test questions in
various subjects.
All schools: have the Ontario Assessment
Instrunent Pool in print and the teachers are using it
, to produce better tests," said Mr. McCauley.
The review of the board's history curricaltun was
recently conducted by a representative of the
Ministry of Education and a consultant from the
Windsor Separate School Board. The review con-
cludes that history is being well delivered in the
separate. schools and makes several recom-
mendations on various aspects of the history
curriculum.
Director of education William" Eckert noted that
OAIP and other methods of delivering topics and
testing of' students' knowledge will be part of a
professional development day program in the coming
year.
