Residents busy every wee
BY SHIRLEY LITTLE
Many people are under the
misguided impression that
life is over once a person
enters a'nursing home. Not
so - at least not at Maitland
Manor. We thought you
might be interested in know-
ing exactly what does go on
at the Manor.
The following is a list of
our weekly activity program
and the volunteers who
assist each week.
Monday - This is Bingo
Day and there is usually
quite a large turnout of
residents here. In the even-
ing Maurice Wilkinson
shows movies.
Tuesday - Assisting the
residents at shuffleboard is
Marc Chalut, Christina Hoff-
meyer and Doreen Garrow.
Wednesday - Marjorie
Poulter serves up afternoon
tea complete with white
tablecloths and china. At
night we have Rhythm Band
featuring Gord Harrison on
piano, the Ross boys, Ebb
and Bill playing mouth
organs, along with Bill
Hughes, Lorne Hyde and
Lorene Madge. Accompany-
ing the band and leading the
sing -along . is Audrey Kerr,
Betty Helesic and Faye Bar
th. Marcella Courtney comes
in to play bridge with the
residents.
Thursday - In the morning
Eileen Beauchemin holds a
• discussion group. Miss Clare
McGowan was in this past
month to show slides on
Holland. Eileen Chalut gives
the residents manicures.
Thursday afternoon is craft
time. Assisting in "this

Shirley Little. We made
shamrocks, :hats and cairns
for table centrepieces for St.
Patrick's Day and are, cur-
rently working on various
items for sale at our annual
bazaar in November. Emily
Little collies over on
Thursday afternoons to chat
with the residents; bringing
them bits of news and
sometimes a little baking.
Friday - This is ceramics
day. Joyce Bolton, Marjorie
Poulter and Ellen Connelly
help the residents with the
cleaning, painting and firing
of the various pieces. The
nursing home has its own
kiln for firing. We also have
a grow light in the craft
room and this residents have
been busypotting
geraniums, violets, etc.
Sunday' - Every Sunday a
church service is held at the
Manor. Ministers from the
Goderich Ministerial
Association .all take their
turn with the service. The
Salvation Army makes
weekly Visits' and once a
month the Christian Reform-
ed Church people come over
for a service and hymn sing-
ing.
On SL Patrick's Day, the
resident's enjoyed Irish stew
andour rhythm band enter-
tained with many Irish
tunes.

Once a month a birthday

month. Celebrating at
March's party were: Frank
Wyade, Mary Helesic,
Cazimir Domanski, Hattie
Van Arman, Margaret
McDonald, Mayme Bowers,

vian, Florence. Bowen and
Lily McArthur. Karen

the party to sing and play the

Kathy Johnson tap danced.
The program was a delight
for all.
The ladies from the
Goderich Legion visit once a
month for a sing -song and
tap dancing program.
Mona Rohl helps " the
residents with an exercise
program.
On April 5, Geri Fashions
of London were at the Manor
to demonstrate various ar-
ticles of clothing (for -men
and women) adapted for the
handicapped. We hope to
have them back again.
We are pleased to welcome
three new residents to
Maitland Manor - Emily
Elliott, M. Pearl Dickson
and Pearl Wilson from Kin-
cardine.
Well that just about sums
our activities up. I hope I
have not forgotten anything
or especially anyone. Talk to
you again next month.
