Dear editor,
Genealogy is becoming
more and more popular of
late and during the past few
years, the number of people
tracing their family has
grown tremendously.
Members of the Huron Coun-
ty Genealogical Society are
frequently asked for infor-
mation on "how to get
started".
We have therefore decided
to hold a "Beginner's Night"
in an attempt to assist those
who. want to_start, have just
begun or those who don't
know where to look next. It
will be held on April 6 at 7:30
p.m. in the board room of the
Assessment • Office, 57
Napier St., Goderich. En-
trance and parking are at
the rear. -
There is no charge for this
workshop and an excellent
program has been prepared.
Anyone at all interested in
finding their "roots" is most
welcome to attend. Further
information is available

Why not let God be true?
Dear Editor,
This morning's Free Press
carried an article by Chris
Dennett in which he quoted
E'duca.tion. Director
Madeline Hardy of the Lon-
don Ontario Board of Educa-
tion: "You see, we have all
been deceived into believing
that (examination marks)
are very meaningful. I
guess, as educators, it is the
biggest con job we have ever
accomplished."
With that, I take issue, A
much bigger 'con job' has
been accomplished by
educators. When I attended
Chesley Avenue School in the
city of London, . we had a
very religious teacher, who
opened school with the
Lord's Prayer, read from
and emoted upon Scriptures
just about every day. One
piece of religious poetry he
dwelt upon very much was:
"Life is real, life is earnest,
and the grave is not its goal.
'Dust thou art, to dust
returneth' was not spoken of
the soul", from Gray's
ELEGY in a county chur-
chyard. Since he Used the Bi-
ble so much and seemed to
believe it, no one ever ques-
tioned the truthfulness of
Gray's statement.
Not only that, but a book
used in Catholic Schools
since 1884 contains this: "At
last He said: 'Let us make
man in our " image and
likeness, and let him have
dominion over the whole ear-
th" (this is a quotation from
Genesis 1:26 DOUAY). The
next sentence says: "So God
formed man out of the slime
of the earth, and breathed in-
to him an'knmortal soul, and
called him Adam, that is,
taken from the earth." This
makes no pretence of being a
Scripture quotation, BUT -
it's following so closely
would easily imply that it
was.
That "So" beginning the
sentence ties it cloSob, to the
Scripture, quoted. However,
the Scripture (Genesis 2:7)
regarding man's creation
reads: "And the Lord God
foraned man of the slime of
the earth; and breathed into
his face THE BREATH OF
LIFE (caps mine), and man
BECAME a LIVING -SOUL."
(Note there is nothing about
an immortal soul)
To Adam (that LIVING
SOUL) God said in sentenc-
ing him: "In the sweat of thy
face shalt thou eat bread till
thou return to the earth, out
of which thou wast taken; for
dust thou art, and into dust
thou shalt return." (Genesis
3:19 DOUAY)
Therefore the "biggest con
job" that `education' has
ever accomplished to my
mind at least, is not that "ex-
amination marks are very
meaningful" but the fact
that millions of sincere

Catholics and equally
sincere Protestants have
been "educated" -into believ-
ing that man has an immor-
tal soul!
Concerning "immortali-
ty". the Douay version
Catholic Bible says: "Now to
the king of ages, immortal,
invisible, the only God, be
honor and glory for ever and
ever. Amen." (1 to Timothy
1:17) This applies to the one
"whose name alone is
JEHOVAH" (Psalm 83:18
AV). Then 1 to Timothy
6:15,16, speaking of the
resurrected and glorified
Jesus Christ: "the King of
Kings and Lord of Lords,
who only hath immortality."
And, to cap the climax:
The 'Catholic DOUAY ver-
sion Bible states flatly: "the
son of man is not immortal",
at ECCLESIASTICUS 17:29.
Why not let God be true?
Sincerely yours,
C. F. Barney,
Clinton.
