surprises, down here.
This last week las been
• Gasparillo DaYs--
, celebrating the !line when
the Spaniards took over the
Sarasota area. There are
many beautiful buildings--
espeeially in the "down-
town" area -of Spanish
architecture, also many
• large homes of this style
here and in Venice. Some of
their architects ,must have
stayed here for quite -awhile
to have accomplished so
much: So, they *must have
been friendly Spaniards to
rate a week or more of
celebrations There are
beautiful parades, all kinds
of games and fun. They even
• had a big- marathon -over
5,000 people running "just
for fun". Everyone enjoys it.
There's lots to see and DO.
The -big circus . was in
January. Two units .of The
• Blue and The Red practise
their routines in the arena in
• Venice. Sometimes you can
• watch them teaching young
aerialists and. -trapeze ar-
tists -to -be on equipment
stretched between the trees.
New and lovely costumes are
• created -Reny people in
'Venice work for the -circus.
• They practise, then have a
few shows, and on the last
night, march out of the
arena, over the bridge, to,
their awaiting train. They
are then on their way to
different cities all over the
continent.
With the circus and so
many festivals and parades,
people with many skills are
kept busy. It is fantastic -the
hings, they create are
beautiful and amazing. So
they are always ready' for a
parade or entertainment of
any kind, at any time.
Venice and Sarasota
theatres are busy and there
are many "dinner theatres"
on the go. These are quite
popular now. •
I have been painting and
enjoying it.
There are many, many
things to occupy your tiMe-
tif you want to be busy. I
really enjoy the shuf-
fleboard. It is a real
challenge of hand and eye. I
•call it outdoor pool because
you have to THINK and TRY
all the shots the same as if
•you were at the pool table.
Some people think all you do
•in this game is knock the
puck off the board. They
certainly are missing al& of
fun by doing this because it is
a real thrill» to be .able to
manipulate these little (or
big) discs and out -shoot
someone.
Think of it as a ground pool
table. You have a cue, the
"balls" are flattened but if
you toueli them the right
way, you can easily outwit
your opposition.
The 'seniors" can find
plenty to occupy their tune.
There are great bus tours.
Concerts 'out of town, are
very well attended as well as
those in the area.
- Those who like to work
• With -their hands .can find
plenty to do. The parades,
for instance, have a great
many seniors who like to
create unusual and beautiful
things to be used on many
occasions.
There are so many
volunteer workers doing
great thingt;--helping other
people They findl it very
rewarding. Arid it is GOOD
to be busy or on the go! It
keeps you spry and happy -
what inore could yoirwarit'?
So, keep happy try .to
giggle when you'd like to
scream and you'll be
amazed how quickly the air
cleats!
