without crying and victory
without gloating. Certainly
an attitude worth copying .
This night was an oppor-
tunity to gloat as the teacher
foursome of D4!Ialda Mac-
donald, Iioug Yeo, Ron Rit-
chie and Victoria's new Vice -
Principal Floyd Herman
curled expertly to defeat the
Champion Office "Silver
Brooms". Novice "Broom"
John Crawford added a new
wrinkle to the Silver Broom
attack but it was not enough
because this was the night of
Elementary Teacher
Power!
After an entire column
was dedicated to GDCI last
week, both GDCI teams lost
this week. The streaking
Huron County Health Unit
jumped into a seven point
lead after only two, ends in
their battle with the GDCI
Number 2 unit and never
relinquished their ad-
vantage. The "big end" has
always been a Health Unit
trademark and Fisher, Orr,
Paquette and MacKinnon
carried on this tradition with
style as they multiplied their
early lead into a one-sided
triumph.
The big end was also pre-
sent in the GDCI Teacher
Number 1 game against the
Goderich Legion. Although
the teachers won five of the
game's eight ends, they lost
the game 7 to 6. Legion skip
Jim Bell's crucial pressure
shots in the third and sixth
ends resulted in a pair of
three point ends for the vic-
tors and were only two of
Bell's 15 accurate shots on
this night. Bill Worsell was
outstanding as he filled in for
regular Vice -skip Doug Bun-
dy who was absent due to a
family death. The entire In-
dustrial League extends its
sympathy to Doug in this
time of sorrow.
The GDCI Vikings con-
tinue to be most successful
representatives of this in-
stitution as they "chalked"
up win number nine by
defeating the Maitland
Golfers. The match was 4 to
3 for the Golfers at the mid-
way point but the students
persevered and took ontro1
in the later -ends. This con-
test saw a battle within- a
battle as the mother -
daughter duo of Duncan and
Duncan competed. Although
the game went to the Vik-
ings, both „ Anne and Kay
agreed they fought to a
draw. No generation gap
there!
Local 1863 kept pace with
the Vikings as they short-
changed the Victoria and
Grey workers 7 to 4.
Newcomers Terry Herd and
Don Lindsay performed well
for the union standard but
the V & G foursome had the
pressure on throughout the
game. Fran Armstrong and
Cathy Hamilton were very
sharp and. earned the ad-
miration of "Classy" Charlie
Crawford and no doubt also
his vote for the most improv-
ed team award!

this fine organization. Cam

Jim "Heartbreaker"
Super Shellite Lynn Ed-
ward, who claims she has
never been "second" to
anything in her life, was on
top of her game as the Super
Shell partners took on the
AM&G Hospital squad. The
Hospital players scored five
times as many points this
week as last and with their
last two took the game into
an extra end. Jim Rourke's
strong curling had kept the
game close but in the final
analysis it was the smooth
teamwork of the Edward
and Brissette families that"
prevailed 6 to 5. This unity is
particularly noteworthy con-
sidering Ed is selling his gas
for less money than Don is
selling his fuel! A novel twist
in the market place!
The final two games of the
evening were also "family"
affairs as the two Sifto teams
and the male and female
Foresters units squabbled
among themselves. The
male Foresters used every
'trick learned from their hc-
elated experience to
tact their female adver-
saries. A flash of flesh!
