ASSEMBLY
The story is familiar
among Bible readers. Jesus
arrives in Capernaum,
crowds gather, and excite-
ment builds. One man was
missing from the ranks of
onlookers, unable to come
due to his paralyzed condi-
tion. But four men! Thank
God for these four special
men! These four didn't wish
to miss Jesus' visit to their
village, neither did they
overlook the handicapped
and less fortunate. Their
Wesimet
frleed was paralyzed, in-
capacitated, and in needof
help.
The true account unfolds •
in spectacular
fashion...these four men df
compassion and faith are
seed carrying their paralyz-
ed friend along with his bed,
to the very home where
Jesus was teaching.
Discovering entrance im-
possible due to the throng of
eager listeners, these men
are detected climbing onto
the roof, tearing a hole large•
enough through which the
man on his bed could pass
through, and finally lower-
ing their friend in his bed -by
ropes into the very presence
of the great Teacher. Jesus
recognized the faith in the
hearts of these four men,
with immediate forgiveness
and healing for their
paralyzed friend.
I observed these four
men's names are unrecord-
ed. Yet, most assuredly,
they were not unknown; they
counted with Jesus. And peo-
ple like these compassionate
men of old still ,count with
God today. Our Heavenly
Father ever looks for in-
dividuals exhibiting compas-
sieh to such a needy world as
ours. •

divorce, with children iOften
the innocent victims; youth•
confused because of poor
parental example, drawn by
peer pressure into their
vicious world of alcohol,
drugs, and sexual impurity;
and on we could go.
Predictably, many of
these individuals will not
discover happiness and
peace of mind UNLESS we
become their "friends".
Families ARE suffering.
People ARE hurting. Let's
not kid ourselves. The
challenge is for us: will' we
become the compassionate

Residents
get the flu
For the past couple of
weeks the flu bug has cer-
tainly been pestering
residents at Huronview and
programs and the usual ac-
tivities have been cancelled.
But 'today seems to have
things fairly well . back to
normal. Euchre has resum-
ed in the auditorium and it
was good to get back
together again.
While there is still illness
here in the home it's hoped
everyone is soon well and .
able to take part in the pro=
grams planned for the com-
ing weeks.
Ed Stiles will be playing
the chapel organ this after-
noon, so for the music lovers

strength, lifting `these ttng ones: to thieir solution,
the Saviour?*
My challenge today is not
easy, Let's live the Gospel
Let"s extend a hand of
endship and love to a
friend or neighbor in need, or
someone in trouble. Let's
carry the Gospel of GOOD
NEWS to the hurts, disap-
pointments, fears, and.
brokenness around us.
aThe .crossing was muddy,
the street was wide
And water was running on
either side,;i
The wind Whistled past with
a bitter moan
As I wended mY weary way
gone.,
In orosSinir the street I
chanced to pass
Aboy ran the awns of a wee,
toddling'lass...
'Isn't he heavy, my sweet
little mother?"
"Oh, no," she replied, "he's
y baby brother-"
by load may be heavy, thy
road 8nay be long,
The winds of adversity bitter
and strong
But the way will seem -
brighter if ye love one
another,
The burden will be light if ye
carry a brother." (Selected)
