Minus four regulars,
Goderich lost its first hockey
game of the season by a 2-1
score. Jack Woods was off
with an injured hand,
Elwood Robinson and

backs and Garrett Carpenter
was away for the holidays.

Speaking at the town
nomination meeting,. Mayor
Lee said that the proportion
of unemployed persons. in
Goderich was less than in
• most other places. Despite
the depression, local in-
dustries had been able to
carry on for the most part
without reducing staffs
appreciably, he said.

First baby of 1958 to be
born at Alexandra Marine
and General Hospital was a
boy --George Alexander
Howes. His parents are Mr.
and Mrs. Colin Howes- of
R.R. 3 Goderich. The birth .
took place at 11:30 a.m. on
New Year's day. ,
Scotsmith Furniture Ltd.
plans to start production by
January 15 in the factory
formerly occupied by the
Goderich Organ Company.
Until heavy machinery is •
moved h here from London,
production will be on a small
scale. In about two months,
Lemuel John Scott, the
president, expects there may
be 60 persons employed.

jointly by the Jaycees and
the Town of Goderich, were
judged on the evening of
Boxing Day. Best decorated

R.J. Elliott, the Blyth
school board trustee, was
elected chairman of the
Huron County Board of
Education Tuesday af-
ternoon • at ° the. board's
inaugural meeting for 1978.
Lee Ryan, clerk of the
Goderich.PUC, resigned that
post recently to become
bookkeeper for .the Town of
Goderich. Ryan `has been
with the PUC -five years and
Will start in the town office
January 23. He will act as
assistant to treasurer Larry
McCabe.
School buses were really to
roll [ Tuesday to , deliver
school children to their
respective schools after the
Christmas break but high
winds and blowing snow kept
some of the buses off the
roads due to liaardous
driving conditions.
