It is interesting to know that the Lions have been coming to tluronview ' for the past fifty-five years. This• very commendable and we a proud in having them sha their. generosity with us at this annual event. - Mary ,Gibbings welcomed. our guest and Bill Hodgert, president, spoke on behalf of the Lions. Marlene Vincent, chairman, opened the pro- gram. A carol sing led by Jim Stewart got things underway. A scripture reading was given by Reverend David McKnight, followed by the Seaforth Barber Shop Chorus. This group of men with excellent voices, sang a medley of old - favourites and was well received by the audience. The Christmas Story loved by all was told by Reverend McKnight. There was another Carol sing and following this, to the en- joyment of all, Santa arrived and with his helpers, distributed gifts to everyone. Many thanks go tithe Lions and performers for a -plea- sant afternoon. Monday the pupils of Hullett Central School presented a concert for us. The students numbering about 75, prepared an ex- cellent program of in- strumental and choral com- positions. Mary Gibbings welcomed our guests. Mr. Angus MacLennan, prin- cipal of the school, brought greetings and introduced Mr. Cookson, teacher and leader of the band. The band, consisting of students from grades 7 and �,8, played a medley of carols and mar- ches: One of the selections in particular "Hogan's Heroes March", was extremely well performed. Students from Grades 5, 6, 7 and 8 compris- ed the choir and instructed by Mr. Cookson. Mrs. Bosman accompanied at the piano. It was an afternoon of great music and song. Mr. MacLennan told us that pupils from Hullett School have been coming here for about five years. It has become a tradition at Huron - view and we are°always hap- py to have them. To have.' Doug Bundy was master of ceremonies, and brought Christmas greetings. The band opened the program with a medley of ,carols. Selections were played from popular TV programs and popular musicals. Mr. Bun- dy introduced each number and one of the features was having 'a selection played and the residents were asked to guess the titles. A delicious lunch , was served by Mrs. Jack Cook and her committee. • ,• We, Honour Visa and MasterCard. h • Costs rise' MITCHELL - The renovation project presently underway at the Mitchell town hall will cost an additional $1,188 and will add to the initial renovation budget of $285,595.+.Y„ This along with other additional costs have,., amounted to over 57,000 in the past several months, has Deputy Reeve Alex Ellens concerned that Mitchell taxpayers are being. "milked." "I don't think any of use -.look like Jersey cows," -he told council. The $1,188 cost is a result of repapering stairwells, costing $1,100, an elevator electrical connection, at $ 100 and processed light fixtures costing $88. The added costs have pushed the completion deadline from November to January. A
