Rec department to present series
Once again the Goderich
Recreation Department is
presenting a children's
series program to the
citizens of Goderich and
area.
Four Great Shows for
Children is a program
featuring professional enter-
tainers from throughout On-
tario and will present a per-
formance once a month from
February to May, 1983.
With the assistance of the
Ontario Arts Council and a
kind donation from local
businesses, the Recreation
Department is able to offer
quality cultural perfor-
mances to local children and
their parents who may not
otherwise get a chance to see
them.
The first show to be
presented is "Lisi's Bub-
batron Theatre" on Sunday,
February 20, 1983. Delightful
fables are featured in an
unusual presentation of
story telling and puppetry in
which ,children from the au-
dience act out the play
Bridge Club scores
On Tuesday, November 30,
the Goderich Duplicate
Bridge Club held its annual
ACBL , Membership Game
with nine tables in play for a
Mitchell game. The average
score was 108.
Betty and Ray Fisher were
first overall, leading East-
West with 141.Second, were
Joanne Duckworth and Lee
Ryan with 121; third were
Susan White and Bill
Bradley with 1171/2 and
fourth were Louise
Hetherington and Mary
Lapaine with 1141/2.
Mary Donnelly and
Eleanor Erskine led North-
South and were second
overall with 132. Second
were Jo Berry and Edna
Overholt with 129'/2. Third
were Jean Cook and Verna
Worthy with 109. Fourth
were Helen Tench and John
Wood with 107.

On Sunday, March 13, 1983,
"Four Great Shows"
presents Jerry Brodey. With
warmth and energy, singer
and song -writer, Jerry,
Brodey helps children relate
music to their daily lives,
making the process enter-
taining as well as educa-
tional.
The third show will be on
Sunday, April 17, 1983. The
Whole Loaf Theatre will pre-
sent "The Real Sleeping
Beauty." Based on the old
fairy tale, this production
emphasizes the King's effort
to protect his daughter from.
life's interesting. uncertain-
ties and when the century of
sleep has passed, it takes an
unusual prince to cause the
wild thicket to bloom, the
cold castle to awaken and
the threadbare kingdom to
rejoice.
The final performance will
be on Sunday, May 15, 1983.
"Four Great Shows" will
present "Lois, Herb and the
Puppcorns". A stage full of
lovable, absurd looking pup-
pets called the .tippcorns
and the singing, dancing
musical talents of Lois and
Herb Walker add up to a
delightful afternoon of enter-
tainment for young and old
alike. The act that entertain-
` ed the children of Governor
General Shreyer. and Prime
Minister Trudeau will
delight children of all ages.
All performances will take
place at Victoria Public
School at 2:00 p.m. Tickets
will go on sale for the series
in the New year. More infor-
mation will follow through
school flyers and the
Goderich Signal Star.

Broomball
action
continues
On Tuesday, November 23,
Belgrave Ladies defeated
Auburn 3 - 0 with Donna
Walsh getting three points in
the game, while Lucknow
Ladies pounded Goderich by
the same score of 3 - 0.
In men's play, the Eighth
Liners blew away the Blyth
Bears 6 - 0 with Ray
McNichol getting four points
and the Auburn Men downed
Goderich Oarsmen 4 - 2 with
Phil Black getting three
points in their game.
Thursday night there was
a lot of heavy scoring with
Lanesville Lords walking all
over the Clinton Warriors 7 -
0, with Ian Hackett getting
three points. Lakelet
Hornets dumped the League
Team 7 - 0 with Dave Ireland
and Doug Kieffer each Iget-
ting three points on the score
sheet.
A good hitting fast playing
game between Atlas Rams
and Maitland Dirt Riders
showed tough competition;
the Rams coming put on top
1 - 0 with Greg Cook's winn-
ing goal late in the final
period.
In the ladies division, the
Brussels Ladies downed the
Gravel Runners 2 - 0 in a
hard-hitting game and the
Blyth Baintoneers clipped
Goderich Ladies 2 - 1 with
Ann Schoemaker netting the
winning goal.
