Dennis Timbrell addresses
annual Institute meeting
"Let us strengthen what is
good," said Dennis Timbre%
Minister of Agriculture and
Food, when he addressed the
annual meeting of the
Federated Women's In-
stitute of Ontario in Toronto.
He urged the 34 board direc-
tors, representing 27,000
members in the province, to
be more aware of the needs
of rural women. "Foodland
preservation and increased
marketing of Ontario foods
is necessary to meet our
needs as well as that of the
world," he said. He also ask-
ed the Women's Institute for
their co-operation in
-celebrating- --OnTalio's
Bicentennial in 1984.
Ken Knox, Director, Rural
Organizations and Service
Branch, challenged the
women to work for a better
understanding of rural and
urban population, working
with the Branch to more effi-
ciently understand the pro-
ducer and consumer.
The FWIO Provincial
President, Mrs. Keith
Hiepleh, chaired the sessions
dealing with varied concerns
and business. Resolutions
were sustained on topic.s, of
mental health facilities in
the North; drugs; support
programs for the disabled; a
referendum regarding the
death penalty; and the need
for tax revisions for the fruit
farmers.
Mrs. Harvey Noblitt of Ot-
tawa, the President of the
Federated Women's In-
stitute of Canada, informed
the directors of the projects
and programs for the next
triennium. Members are
-sked to study and have pro-
grams on "Unlimited Poten-
tial - Women".
Joyce Canning, represen-
tative from the Rural
Organizations and Service
Branch, expressed concern
for new programs to meet
the needs of today's lifestyle.
Exciting challenges face
the membership as plans are
being made for the
Associated Countrywomen
of the World conference in ,
Vancouver in 1983. Mrs.
Clarence Diamond reported
on plans to date, when 2,200
delegates from around the
world are expected.

with three scholarships for
advanced studies, 22

University, county scholar-
ships being presented, as
well as $3,400 being sent to

the training of students from
underdeveloped countries.
