They competed with teams from Chatham, Paris, Parkhill, Strathroy, Lambeth, Mooretown and Forest. In their first game, the local boys were defeated by a strong Mooretown team. This put. them into the consolation round. Their second game was against Lambeth. The Lambeth team jumped to a quick 2-0 lead but the Goderich boys fought back to tie the score in the third period, and put the game into overtime. In this tournament, the rules state that if the game is tied, both teams must play without goalies until the tie is broken. Normally this doesn't take very long. However, Lambeth and Goderich were so well matched, it took a period and a half (15 minutes) of play before Goderich scored the winner to advance to the final against Parkhill. After two hours of rest following the five period thriller, the Garb and Gear boys came out 6-4 losers in the final against a fresh Parkhill team but they deserve full credit for a fine performance. s ca,,, a , 1 team off to good start BY TD The GDCI Vikings are off to a good start iii senior boys' exhibition basketball play with wins in their first two starts. Friday the Vikings won an exciting 61-59 victory over Sarnia St. Clair here. Earlier in the week, the Vikings got by the Central Huron Redmen 62-52 in a game played in Clinton. The Vikings have one more exhibition series next Monday in Owen Sound where they will play Westhill and OSCVI. Coach Myles Murdock's Vikings then move into regular season play next Wednesday with a road game in Mitchell. The Mitchell team ousted the Vikings in last year's Huron -Perth playoffs and have almost their entire team returning, so the Vikes have a tough test to look forward to in that one. The Vikings did not take the lead in their game with St. Clair until the fourth quarter. They were down 20-8 after the first quarter and trailed 31-27 at half-time. The Vikings •were still three points down after the third quarter, 44-41, but a strong surge in the final quarter won the game for them. The Vikings showed a lot of hustle and that, along with good play from the bench, won it. Dan McCallum was the top Viking scorer with 18 points. Scott Bell added 14 and Joe Morrissey had 11. Andrew Telford hit for eight points, Chris Pitre hooped five and Kevin Adams had three points. Geof Chase and Kevin Smith each made one free throw. The Vikings threw up 80 shots from the floor, making 26 of them for a 33 per cent average. From the foul line, they were nine for 20 for 45 per cent. Chris Pitre and Joe Morrissey were the top defensive players of the game for the Vikes. '1,00ko CATALOGUE STORE Take advantage of us.. Limited Quantities!
