Goderich goals were scored by Stacey Rean, Mary Michelle Morrissey and Debbie O'Brien. Keep up the good work Tanya. Bantams lose to Parkhill 5-2 The Goderich Elevators Bantam team lost their se- cond game of the season against Parkhill here on Saturday, by a score of 5 - 2. What started out as an evenly balanced first period, soon turned into a mismatch less than two minutes into the second when Parkhill scored the first of four goals. The period was marred with penalties, with Goderich drawing four and Parkhill five. With three minutes re- maining in the second period, Goderich finally got on the scoreboard on a goal from the point by Kevin Telford '.rom a pass by Dar- ren Doak. In the third period, Goderich drew closer when Kevin Talbot scored at the 9:52 mark. Parkhill was soon to make that up when they scored their fifth goal at the 6:24 mark. Again penalties seemed to determine the outcome as Goderich drew four against Parkhill's three. When short- handed, Parkhill seemed to have little trouble controll- ing the game with their ex- cellent passing and posi- tional play, something Goderich seemed to lack. So far this season, the Ban- tams have one win, two ties and five losses. At times the team has been plagued with injuries causing coaches Kevin MerIam and Brian Moody to juggle lines and try different combinations. Hopefully the team will now remain healthy, allowing Kevin and Brian to get the team toward more success in the remainder of the schedule. Goderich Industrial Curling By GEORGE SUTTON The competitiveness ' of the 1982.83 version of the Goderich Industrial Curling League is apparent already. After just two weeks of curling, only three of the league's 16 teams have escaped the disgusting taste of defeat! This "lucky" trio consists of The Foresters; The GDCI Teacher No. 2 team and The A.M.&G. Hospital unit. Being undefeated is not a new feeling for the talented Foresters. They used the blank end and opportunistic curling to defeat the Legion representatives 7 to 3. The Foresters combined style and. grace (Faye Ribey) with powerful determination (the Moore men) and incredible good fortune (Cam Bogie) to overcome fine efforts by Legion members Jim Bell and Gerry Walters. Jim Rourke's A.M.&G. Hospital unit had little problem winning their second in a row by outplaying the champion office "Silver Brooms." The "big end" was the downfall of the spirited "Brooms" as they allowed Hospital sharpshooters like Ron Klages and Terry Worsell to build up the house for skip Rourke's steady finishing touches. Their two big wins are making it clear that one Hospital team in the league is enough., Garrow and the GDCI Teacher No. 2 foursome found the going much tougher than A:M.&G. as they battled down to the final shot with the GDCI Vikings. The Vikings, having edged the GDCI Teacher No. 1 team last week, had visions of a clean sweep of their educators dashed by the consistently fine curling of the No. 2 (?) unit. •Along with the excellent leadership of skip Garrow was the strong performance of Shelley Warr and the ever present aid of "Lady Luck." Viking skip Scott Collins hada chance to win it with his final shot of the contest. His shot hit the target but the teacher rock rolled back on another Viking rock to remain "shot rock" and provided the difference in a dramatic victory for the much older teacher foursome. Scott's disappointment was shared by all the Vikings. "There goes our recognition assembly" one was heard to moan. Of all the second place teams, none stands out more than the Victoria & Grey foursome. They have new sweaters! They also showed new determination to improve on last year's record as they overpowered the Sifto Evaporator unit 8 to 2. Kathy Denomy showed fine early season form filling in for the missing Brenda Teichert while skip Ronnie Armstrong was able to ignore that form to concentrate on key WOODLOT MANAGEMENT AND FUELWOOD WORKSHOP TOPICS: Selection of trees for cutting, Safe tree felling techniques, Burning fuelwood safely. Lorry Jin McCabe Administrator Town of Goderich 57 West Street Goderich, Ontario shots whenever necessary. Sifto skip Thn Colwell took the loss philosophically stating that the V&G employees seemed to have more "interest" in the game's out- come. Local 1863 bounced back from last week's tough extra end loss with a con- vincing victory over the Lady Foresters by a similar 8 to 2 score. Novice curler Rick Turner turned in an excellent first time performance along with newly-wed Charlie Crawford. With their wives looking on in obvious awe and admiration the duo of Turner and Crawford showed no mercy to their feminine opponents. Huron Health Unit skip, Jack Mackin- non, smarting from the public criticism of last week's final shot, made sure that only complimentary things could be printed about him this week. Mackinnon was almost flawless. His greatest achievement as a skip however, is his ability to select good teammates. Once again Laurie Paquette was outstanding; John Orr was quietly efficient and Paul Dawson strong at the lead position. Their opponents, Super Shell, never got hot and just ran out , of gas in the late going. The GDCI Teacher No. 1 team also recorded their first triumph of the season with an 11 to 4 over the Sifto Salt "Maniacs." A four ender in the fourth was the difference in this battle. The front end of Carl Ziebarth and Bill Worsell built up a well guarded house consistently and Sifto skip Jerry Riseborough often found himself with very difficult final shots. Nothing keeps the pressure off the skip better than a strong front end unless it's a vice that rarely misses. The GDCI Teachers had both in this contest. • Wonderwoman is a comic book heroine obviously admired by the ladies of the Maitland Golfers foursome. This team's invincible curling and relentless pursuit of perfection, rumour has it, prompted their opponents, the Elementary Teachers to label them "Wonder Women." I wonder if they will ever miss," Donalda Macdonald thought when the score reached 4 to 0. "I wonder if they support equal pay for equal play," mused Doug Yeo when the score jumped to 8 to 1. "I wonder if they are enjoying this," lamented Dianne Budnark when the tally soared to 12 to 1. "I wonder if the beer is cold," yelled skip Ron Ritchie as the final 16 to 1 score was recorded for history. "I wonder who these super ladies are," you ask? Sorry, wonder is a won- derful thing, so wonder on.
