Four PUC employees
receive union certification
SEAFORTH - The Seaforth
PUC's four outside em-
ployees have received union
certification. The group is
represented by the Inter-
national Brotherhood of
Electrical Workers (IEW)
Local 636.
According to union
representative, Doug Smale,
the outside employees opted
for the union because of
difficulties with wages. Mr.
Smale admitted that "there
was a little problem" in the
area of wages, although he
declined to comment further
on the matter. Wage
negotiations are set to begin
in the near future.
"The union will draw up a
contract (on wage
bargaining) and take it to the
commission," Mr. Smale
explained.
Mr. Srnale is uncertain
whether the union will bel
held to the provincial
government's 5 per cent
guideline in the upcoming
wage negotiations. He
acknowledged that the
commission has received
notice of certification.
