( photo by T.Marr) Tenders to be approved When the new council takes office in December, they will face the task of approving one of three tenders submitted for garbage collection. Only three ten- ders were submitted for collection for the years 1983, 84 and 85 and council referred the matter to the new council. The ten- ders were received from McLelland Ltd., Don Carter and Robert Johnston. To hire four The town of Goderich recently received notice that its application under the Community Development Program for St. Christopher's Beach has been ap- proved in the amount of $28,330. The funds will allow the town to hire four employees to work on the beach project during the spring, summer and fall of 1983. Given priority The Ministry of Transportation and Communication informed council that the airport terminal building will be given priority consideration for 1983 funding. The town is proceeding with underground servicing for .the terminal and will proceed with construction of the terminalas funds permit. Proposal ends' sed Council endorsed a proposal from the Canadian Bar Assocation which hopes to get April 18 declared as Law Day. Law Day 1983 has been endorsed by the Minister of Justice and would be held the day after the anniversary of the proclamation of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. COMMUNITY NEWS ,hermit value drops The number of building permits issued in town is down slightly from figures last year as 141 permits have been issued compared to 144 a year ago. The value of the 144 permits in 1981 was $3,741,015 compared to $2,970,628 for the 141 per- mits issued in 1982. Resolution backed The village of Zurich informed council that 18 of 26 municipalites in Huron County have backed the village's. resolution asking municipalities to petition the school boards to restrain spending in 1983-84 to six and five per cent. Eight municipalities have not responded to the resolution. In a letter to council, the village clerk said, it was council's. intention to ask for the board's co-operation in°keeping overall tax in- creases to six per cent in 1983 and five per cent in 1984. Fund raising The Huron -Perth Lung Association campaign co-ordinator, Eileen Beauchemin advised council that volunteers will sell real holly as pins to. raise money .for . the association: Volunteer will be on The Square selling holly December 10 and 11. Donnybrook U.C.W. views slides of The Donnybrook U.C.W., Met at the home of Mrs. William Hardy on Monday, Nov. 15. The meeting opened with everyone singing hymns Guide Me, 0 Thou great Jehovah, followed with a scripture reading in unison. This was followed with a reading, "In Days of Days from Judges by Mrs. R. Han- na and then Psalm 100 was read by all: Mrs. J. Hildebrand gave a Greece reading "Strange :.Paths and then 0 God our Help in Ages Past, was sung. Mrs. Brenda Edgar show- ed slides of her trip to Greece last September. The slides . showed the coun- tryside and some stoneworks that dated before Christ. There were also slides of the benches, and oranges, olives and grapes which are grown in Greece. After the slide show Mrs. Hardy thanked Miss Edgar and presented her with a gift. Then Mrs. J. Hildebrand read a poem "Keep the Faith". Following the poem, the offering was taken and the minutes were. read. Mrs. E. Robinson handled the business and then the hymn, "The day Thou gayest, Lord, is ended" was sung. Mrs. Hildebrand closed the meeting with a'Imayer. A social time followed. The group is represented by the Inter- national Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IEW) Local 636. According to union representative, Doug Smale, the outside employees opted for the union because of difficulties with wages. Mr. Smale admitted that "there was a little problem" in the area of wages, although he declined to comment further on the matter. Wage negotiations are set to begin in the near future. "The union will draw up a contract (on wage bargaining) and take it to the commission," Mr. Smale explained. Mr. Srnale is uncertain whether the union will bel held to the provincial government's 5 per cent guideline in the upcoming wage negotiations. He acknowledged that the commission has received notice of certification.
