Draw made New Year's Eve, 1982. _ Amminn yyv i., /.1 • Christmas Fair a great success The first annual Auburn Christmas Fair sponsored by the Auburn Booster Club was a huge success last Saturday. The community hall was filled to capacity with 21 local crafters, bake tables and tea tables. Many people came to see the crafts that ranged from stained glass, smocking, woodwork- ing, knitting, ceramics, mir- rors and quilting. Many en- joyed a light snack at the decorated tea tables while getting an early start on their Christmas shopping. During the day a draw was made on a ceramic Christmas tree donated to the Booster Club by Bess Slater of Auburn Ceramic shop. The lucky winner was Mrs. Peter Verbeek. The members of the Booster Clubwish to thank Mrs. Slater for her generosi- ty. Also thanks to Doug Chamney for assisting with the draw. ' Proceeds from the Christmas Fair will be AUBURN NEWS Moamar Rrednooka 51213-75813 donated to the Huron County Children's Aid Christmas Fund who also had a booth at the Fair. The Booster Club also wish to thank all those who donated and helped to make the Fair so successful. .Helen Peck Dies The sympathy of the com- munity is extended to Mr. and Mrs. Robert Peck on the. death of their daughter, Miss Ruth Helen Peck of London, m her 26th year. Besides her parents she is survived by one sister, Brenda of Regina and one brother, Jim of Windsor. The funeral was held at the James A Harris Funeral Home on November 20. Rev. Bruce A. The president Mrs. Jim Schneider was in charge and the minutes were read by secretary Mrs. Tom Haggitt. Treasurer Mrs. Ross Robinson gave the financial statement. It was announced that the Santa Claus and cutter can be stored in Glen Webster's' barn. Committees were set up for the annual Family Night on November 26th at 6:30 p.m. • Decorating 4 . The Auburn Women's In- stitute and the Auburn Hor- ticultural Society will hold their annual Family Night on Friday, November 26 at 6:30 p.m. A pot -luck dinner will be held. Mr. and Mrs. Grant Raithby and family of Coll- ingwood visited with Mr. and Mrs. Frank Raithby and Mr. John Raithby last Saturday. District Horticulture Meeting District 8 of the Ontario Horticultural Society held their meeting last Wednes- day afternoon at the home of Mrs. Viola Haines of Blyth. The Director of District 8, Mrs. Maisie Bray of Lion's Head, was in charge. Mrs. Ed Fielding of Wingham the secretary read the minutes and the financial statement prepared by the treasurer W. Baxter of Wingham was read. Society directors were present from Brussels, Lucknow, Seaforth, Durham, Tara, Chesley, Wingham, Teeswater, Auburn and Chesley. Mrs. Bray spoke of the new liabili- ty insurance to cover injury at any event sponsored by the Horticultural Society. The fee would be included in the fee sheet. Plans were made for the annual meeting to be held on April 16th at Lucknow Legion Hall. The nominating committee will be Mrs. Maisie Bray of Lion's Head and Miss Helen Argyle of Teeswater-Culross Society. Different speakers will be contacted and it is planned to have a panel to discuss pest control, fertilizer re- quirements, planting and transplanting or new garden varieties. Each society is asked to bring a door prize valued at $5. It is hoped that several would enter the photographic competition and a two minute report is asked from each Society. Mrs. Bray urged all societies to present a service award to a member who has done outstanding work in the organization who has been a member for at least 10 years. A judging school is plann- ed for the spring and if you wish to attend please notify Mrs. Bray as soon as possi- ble. Booster Club The Auburn Booster Club met last Tuesday evening at the home of Mrs. Brenda Bricker. It was a short organizational meeting to finalize plans for the Christmas Fair to be held on November 20 in the Auburn hall.
