track located across from the high school. The $132,000
track is complete except for some curbing and lines and itis
almost paid for through a generous community, service

Huron County Hick writes poem to Premier
Dear Editor:
An open letter to Hon.
William Davis regarding the
proposed mental retardation
facility closures:
We are sending this short
le''‘er,
Mr. Davis, Sir, to you,
To express our consternation
At what you plan to do.
To close six M.R. centres
But you really do not know,
Where there's schools or
workshops
Or homes where the M.R.
folk mv go.
You plan to cut the
workforce,
Eleven hundred plus must
go,
businesses thanked by school
Dear Editor,
At this time the senior
students of the Modified
Basic Program at Central
Huron Secondary School are
engaged in work experie:tce.
Work experience is valuable
training which helps the
students in transition from
school to the work force.
One hundred and fifty
Huron County business peo-
ple have given their time and
experience to help these
young people.
In the Goderich area the
businesses presently involv-

your newspaper in assisting
Branch 109 to attain this ob-

We especially thank you
for the excellent coverage of
the poppy campaign and our

Ken Vingoe is not alone in his. situation
Dear Editor,
We are not second class
citizens! !
We read your story on Ken
Vingoe and although our
hearts go out to him and his
family, he is not alone nor is
his case unique.
There are many of us in
this town with families who,
through no fault of our own,
find ourself in Ken's situa-
tion.
We have to learn to accept
many changes in our lives
and the lives of our children.
Although the money we
receive is 50 percent or less
of the government's poverty
standard, we still can sur-
vive. •
I myself receive the same
two cheques a month that
Ken does, yet we keep our
LETTE
bills paid and our family fed.
Sure it means cutting cor-
ners and accepting a dif-
ferent style of life but if we
live just for today, the future
will look out for itself.
There -nany agencies
and group otuid that will
give extra help when needed.
I go to London quite often
for treatment or tests but I
am reimbursed for most of
my cost.
There ' are also service
clubs that help.
We have no car and we
have to depend on friends for
rides to stores, etc. and they
have never failed us.
The Family and Children's
Services Christmas Bureau
serviced 222 families in
Huron County last year for
dinner and gifts. In the town
of Goderich alone, ' 45
families received help and
they expect this number to
be up considerably this year.
And these are only
families; there are many
more single people or
couples without children on
Glad conservation is underway
Dear Editor:
I am responding to your
"Conservation Authorities
Create Short Term Pro-
jects" article. Having been a
long and active member of
your community, I am over-
joyed to hear that the matter
of conservation and stream
rehabilitation has finally
gotten underway.
I grew up in the Maitland
Valley, and spent more time
on the streams and creeks,
than I did in school. I have
witnessed the downfall and
destruction that has occur-
red over the past 10 years.
The small streams and
tributaries of the farming
community are very suscep-
tible to man and his devices.
The miniscule waterways
are capable of harboring an
amazing number of trout,
and in many cases a thriving
population of , native trout
already exist.
Do not have shelter
Dear Editor:
In regards to the article
written about the Huronia
Branch of the Ontario
Humane Society we wish to
clarify any
misunderstandings.
First of all, we wish to ad-
vise the public that we do not
have a Shelter at this time,
although this is our ultimate
goal.
A service that we are now
providing for the public is a
Pet Lost, Found and Place-
ment List. For more infor-
-ination regarding this call

Since the Perth County
Branch of the Ontario
Humane Society is active the
Huronia Branch would not
cover the Stratford area.

Dear Editor,
An article in the Signa -

We would like to take this
opportunity to thank
everyone for their time and
contributions. However, in
order for this Branch to have
a Shelter, we require support
from the entire district,
whether it be financially or
actively involved.
The date for the next

feel this may be a useful and

community.

responsibility. Apart front,
embarrassment and tem-
porarily upset feelings, no
other harm was done in the
case of the Family Crisis
Centre. I am speaking with
the knowledge that in some
1
other cases serious con-
sequences could result to so-
meone, if we are careless
with our claims and with our
signatures. This "someone"
might even be you on some
future occasion.
Sin erely,
Elsa Haydon
To let these waterways
deteriorate is a crime.
I praise the local Con-
servation Authorities . for
pushing the issue to the Pro-
vincial and Federal govern-
ment. Not only does it pro-
vide jobs for unemployed
forestry and fisheries
workers, it keeps the
streams healthy, causing the
delicate eco -system to
thrive.
A program of this nature
has been lacking for an
awful long time. The expen-
diture of $274,151 is the best
use of our tax money I have
seen in a long time.
Keep up the good work.
Yours sincerely,
Tony Dierolf,
Sault Ste. Marie.

No place for them to stand,
No place for them to grow.
It seems strange that the
Tories
Of Ontari-i-ar-i-ar-i-o,
Should give all these people,
No place to stand or grow.
And no place to stand or

For those within their care.
The group homes to receive

Are, like the jobs - not there.
