Local Liberals attend- convention
A delegation of local
Liberals consisting of Dave
Steckley of Woodham, Andy
• McLean of Seaforth and Tom
Murphy, George Anderson
and Heather Redick of
Zurich participated in the re-
cent convention of the
Liberal Party of Canada
held in ' Ottawa at the
Chateau Laurier Hotel,
November 4 to 7.
The delegates represented
the g at various sessions
including ministerial ques-
tion and answer periods,
organization workshops, and
policy resolution forums.
Two delegates, Dave
Steckley and Heather
Redick were' involved in
Sponsoring and speaking on
three resolutions .calling for
'a long-term agri-food
strategy, and improvements
to transportation, resource
development, research and

the home will provide a
sanctuary for women and
their children in the county
who are being physically
abused by their husbands.

Kinette Clubs. Applications
will also be made for a.
government housing grant.
Organizer Anne
McDonnell of Milverton said
that a need for the home has
been established in Perth. A
questionnaire sent out to
doctors, police and social
agencies in the county in-
dicated that one in 10
families experiences
violence. This figure is the
same as the national
statistic. McDonnell said
there is a need for more
homes as 20,000 women and
children' have been turned
away from similar homes
across the country. •
Plans are now underway to
purchase a home in Strat-
ford,
tratford, to service the county
and the Mennonite Central
Committee has offered to do
any repair work free of
charge.

Liberal caucus, including
Ralph Ferguson, MP for
Lambton-Middlesex.
New party officers for na-
tional party posts were
elected'Sunday, with former
Cabinet Minister, Iona Cam-.
pagnolo defeating incum-
bent Party President Nor-
man Macleod of Toronto.
The policy resolutions and
positions formulated by this
convention will be incor-
porated in to the preparation
of the government's pending
Throne Speechexpected
later this year and.will form
the basis of Party's platform
committee policy formula-
tion.
