The Goderich Signal-Star, 1982-11-17, Page 291 The fifth commandment BY PASTOR AUSTIN GEDCKE, BETIiEL PENTECOSTAL ASSEMBLY a Y Once upon a time there was a little old man. His eyes blinked and his hands trembled. He dribbled a bit of his food on the tablecloth when he ate. Sometimes he even missed his mouth with the spoon. Now he lived with his NAINISTI-R'S STUDY married son, having no other place. And his son's wife was a modern young woman who knew that in-laws were -in the way and should not be tolerated. "I can't have this!" she said to her husband. So she and her husband took the little old man by the arm and led him to the corner of the kitchen. They sat him on a stool and gave him his food in an ear- thenware bowl. From then on, he ate in the corner, looking at the table with wistful eyes. One day as his hands trembled, he dropped and broke the bowl. "If you eat like a pig," said his daughter-in-law, "'we'll make you a trough." So they made him a little wood trough and he got his meals in that. And he felt badly about all the trouble he had caused. Now these people had a four-year-old son of whom Huronview residents attend Ena Cook and Evelyn Ar- cher attended a craft workshop in Elora on Tues- day bringing back many new ideas and patterns to Huron - view. On Thursday Bible Study was held in the chapel with Rev. Duam McLean filling in for Mrs. Prouty who is ill. The residents particularly enjoyed his message in song. Monday afternoon Old Tyme music was held in the auditorium with Wilson Mc- Cartney, Bill Marshall, Jim Ruddock, Jim Rose, Warren Whitmore and Stan Hillen joining together to provide some toe tapping tunes. While ceramics class met to complete their various pro- jects, Special Care enjoyed the afternoon listening to Margaret McQueen play the piano and also to enjoy some refreshments. Wednesday was officially proclaimed Chicken Day at Huronview and 82 residents gathered in the auditorium to feast upon Dixie Lee Chicken. they were very fond. One supper -time the father noticed his young son playing intently with small pieces of wood and asked hirci what he was doing. "I'm making a trough," he said, smiling up for ap- proval, "to feed you and mamma out of when I get big." The man and his wife looked at each other for awhile and didn't say anything. Then they cried a little. And after they regained their composure, they went to the corner and took the little old mars by the arm and led him back to the table. They sat him in a comfortable chair and gave him his food on a nice plate. From then on, nobody ever scolded when he clattered or spilled or broke things. Only a fairy tale, but who can argue the point of the fifth commandment: Honor your parents lest your children dishonor you (Exodus 10:12). workshop Sympathy is expressed to the family of Mrs. Walker who passed away recently. Huronview would like to welcome Annie Steep, from Seaforth, Edna Snell from Exeter, Iva Alexander from Goderich, Edith Logan from Blyth.
