The minutes of the previous meeting were read by. Clerk. Gail Dobie. Village finances for the year were discussed and also the bell on top of the Library and town hall. If it has to come down when the roof is fixed where to place it as a memorial for future generations was considered. Parking on sidewalks 'was discussed and if it continues a' bylaw will have to be drawn up so the trustee board can have it enforced. It was decided to give the community centre to the Leo Club to hold their meetings rent free to the end of the year. Snowplowing was discussed and it was decided to have tenders for the job to be in to the Clerk by November 22nd by 5 p.m.The lowest or any will not necessarily be accepted. The tender must have the hourly rate stated. It was decided to try and cover the front of the centre as soon as possible. WMS Remember Remembrance was the theme of the Auburn Presbyterian Women's Missionary Society (WMS) when they met last Wed- nesday at the home of Mrs. THANK YOU 1 would like to THANK the people of Goderich for their confidence at the polis on Nov. 8. President Mrs. Eleanor„ Bradnock welcomed, especially Mrs. Dawson Craig. The devotional was taken by. Mrs. Frank Raithby. The offering was received by ' Mrs. Frances Clark and dedicated by Mrs. Bradnock. The theme of Remem- brance was taken by Mrs. Clark. She spoke of the dove, the symbol of peace and gave the history of the dove and went through the Bible with references about the dove and it being used as a sacrifice. The minutes of the previous meeting were read by secretary Mrs. Lillian Letherland. Mrs. Clark, the treasurer gave the financial statement. The president thanked those who had\ attended the Knox United Church Thankoffering meeting and also the Arthur Circle's 70th anniversary dinner. A report on the Huron Presbyterial was given and the request for quilts and blankets was discussed by the members for Ewart College and Armagh. Plans were made for the Christmas meeting to be held at the home of Mrs. Clark with Rev. G.L. Royal as guest speaker on December 8th at 1:30 p.m. Lunch was served by Mrs. Dobie assisted by, Mrs. Dawson Craig. U.C.W. Meet Unit 1 of Knox United Church Women (UCW) met last Tuesday evening and the theme of the -c i eting was planting and rea g. Mrs. Tina Empey o . l ned the meeting with : Psalm and Mrs: Emers n Rodger was at the piano. Mrs. Empey gave : reading and Mrs. Robert Arthur also gave a reading. Mrs. Glen Webster led in prayer. Mrs. Glen Webster showed the group how to make a corsage of silk flowers. Mrs. Maurice Bean led the business part of the meeting. She thanked Mrs. Webster for her demonstration. The minutes of the October meeting were read by the secretary Mrs. Tina Empey. Mrs. Jack Armstrong, president of the U.C.W. gave the report on the church kitchen. Mrs. Peter Verbeek joined the group to report on the craft table at the Booster Club Christmas Fair on November 20th with articles to be in before 9:30 a.m. Mrs. Jack Armstrong and Mrs. Maurice Bean offered to help with the sale table. It was announced that Unit 1 would serve the Lion's Club dinner on December ' lst and a dinner later on in December. Unit 2 of Knox UCW met November 9. Mrs. Lawrence Plaetzer and Mrs. 'Leonard Archambault, planned a work meeting. Three quilts were tied and articles were cut out for the layettes. The offering was received by Mrs. Plaetzer and Mrs. Tom Jardin took charge of the business part of the meeting in the absence of the leader, Mrs. Donald Haines. Mrs. Jardin read a poem on Remembrance. The minutes of the previous meeting were approved and; thank you cards were read by Mrs. Beth Lansing. Get -well cards were signed and sent to members and shut-ins. Mrs. Stewart Ball gave the treasurer's report. Plans were made to have the December meeting on December 7th at noon. The executive will plan this meeting and plans were' made for the general meeting on November 24th. The committee in charge served a delicious lunch. Leo Club A formation meeting of the Leo Club in Auburn was held in the community hall on November 10 and was at- tended by 12 prospective Leos. Don Parachek the District A9 chairman for Leo clubs, and five Dublin ''Leo members were present. After Mr. Parachek gave information on Leo clubs and explained how the program is carried on, the group of Auburn teenagers decided to form one in this community. The election of officers took place and the results were: president, Janice Daer; 1st vice-president, Dennis Schneider; secretary, Angela Schneider; treasurer, Rob Glenn; director, Kim Scott. Meetings will be held the first and third Thursday evenings of each month and will, start at 9 p.m. The first meeting will be held in the Auburn Community Centre on November 18th and anyone between 13 and 18 years who is interested in bettering the community is welcome to attend. People Report We are pleased to report that Mrs. Florence Millian returned home on the weekend after being a patient in Clinton Public Hospital for a few weeks. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Haines and family of Niagara Falls spent the weekend with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Haines. Prize winners at last week's euchre party spon- sored by the Auburn Silver Tops were: high lady, Mrs: Tom Hallam; low lady, Mrs. Gordon Powell; high man, Jack Lockhart; low man, Jack Hallam; novelty, Murray Rollinson. There were six tables in play. Come out and support the euchre parties and enjoy yourself. Gaines start at 8 p.m. sharp and everyone is welcome. Miss Vickie Rodger nurse - in -training at Barrie hospital spent the weekend with parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Rodger and family. Miss Patti Helesic of Dungannon visited last Saturday withher grand- parents, Mr. and Mrs. Emerson Rodger. Mr. and Mrs. Clare Rodger and family of Goderich visited on Sunday with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Emerson Rodger. Mr. J.K. Young of Strat- ford and Mr. Robert Young of Stratford visited last Thursday with their aunt, Mrs. Tom Johnston and Miss Laura Phillips. Fourteen neighbors and friends of Mrs. Paul Graf gave her a surprise baby shower last Wednesday evening for her twin sons, Jay Michael and Adam Paul. Mrs. Robert Worsell had a game of charades and gifts for the babies were presented. Joanne thanked • everyone for their gifts and lunch was served which included a cake made by Mrs. Allan Craig and decorated in blue and yellow by Mrs. Al Luna. Twenty-four tables of crafts will be at the Booster Club Christmas Fair to be held on November 20th in the Auburn Community Memorial hall beginning at 10 a.m. A bake table and tea table as well as light lunches will be there. Tickets will be sold on thei'�\ Ceramic Christmas Tree donated by Ceramics by Bess store. The Ministry of Family and Children's services will set up a display to show how their Christmas Fund operates. Honoring Those Who Fought St. Mark's Anglican Church held their Armistice service last Sunday with Rev. William Craven in charge. The presentation of flags was done by Beaver Cub Michael Schneider and Beaver Cub Andrew Luna and their leader Mrs. Jim Schneider. The Last Post and Reveille was played by Angela Schneider, followed by , two minutes silence in memory of those that paid the Supreme Sacrifice during the World I and World War II. Mr. Craven read the roll call and James Towe read the scripture lessons and the organist was Mrs. Murray Nesbit. Mr. Craven gave an in- spiring message on Remembrance telling about the Great Sacrifice and the Great. Spirit when the boys went to defend the British Empire and the willingness to sacrifice for the sake of their fellowmen. The of- fering was received by Jim Schneider and Tom Haeeitt. Board to hire psychologist By Stephanie Levesque The director of education for the Huron County Board of Education; ;will hire a psychologist effective Jan. 1, 1983 at a salary ranging from $32,100 to $38,800. Director of education John Cochrane was authorized to hire the psychologist at the board's November 1 meeting. The psychologist is required for assessment pur- poses relating to special education. "We don't have a choice?" asked Trustee Jean Adams. Superintendent of special education D.R. Miller replied that the board does not have a choice. He ex- plained that,; under special education, a psychologist is necessary for assessment and currently the board is getting the services ' free from outside agencies. The superintendent added the services of a psychologist will also be needed for the Ministry of Education's proposal on the Habitual Absence and the Young Offenders Act. The salaries noted, $38,800 for a Ph. D. and $32,100 for an M.A., were reached by us- ing educational qualifica- tions ,and the 1981432 averages of seven surroun- ding counties and adding five per cent. The Huron board had originally approved the hir- ing of a psychologist for September 1982, but, it was delayed until input could be received from the recently - hired superintendent of special education.
