Midgets
win three
By T.D.
The Goderich Legion
Branch 109 Midgets won one
of three,outings in Shamrock
League; hockey action last
week.
Last Wednesday ' in St.
Marys, coach Larry Jef-
frey's team Lost a close 6-4
decision. Friday the Legion-
naires stormed back to
record a 17-7 win over the
Lucan Irish. Sunday at
home, the Goderich team
lost an exciting 2-1 game to
Strathroy.
In St. Marys, the home
team jumped off to a 3-1 first
period lead, with Grant Gar -
row scoring the only
Goderich goal.
St. Marys scored three
more to grab a 5=1 lead by ,
the mid point of the game,
but the Legionnaires
mounted an offensive that
pulled them to within one
goal with four minutes left in
the game.
Trevor Erb, Jeff 'McEwin
and Rob Gibbons were the
markmen for Goderich. That
was as close as the Goderich
team was going to get,
however, as Brian Bendall
scored for St. Marys into an
empty net to make the final
•score 6-4.
i Friday's game in Lucan
was • a goaltenders.
nightmare with the red light
blinking no less than 24
times.
Trevor Erb and Jeff
McEwin had three goals
each to pace the Goderich at-
tack, Shawn Rahbek; John
Thompson, Jeff LeBeau and
Grant Garrow had two goals •
apiece while Brent William-
son, Doug • Smith and Ken
Huff scored singles.
Sunday's game was a real
treat with both teams show-
ing good. hustle: Strathroy
held a 2.0 lead going into the
third period,. but Grant Gar-
. row got one of ,those back on .
a passing play with Rob Gib- .
bons and Pete Willems. •
Legionnaires were unable
to get the equal»er despite
some good chances around
the Strathroy goal.
The Legionnaires' next •
game. is tomorrow
(Thursday) right . back in
Strathroy. .
