Mr. and Mrs. Freeman Olson visited with Bertha's mother, Mrs. Hay in hospital at Campbellford and other family members on the week- end. Cora Sherwood was the lucky ticket holder when the draw was made at the Blue - water Centre for the beauti- ful "Lonely Rose" quilt. Cora also reports that she has an Easter lily that is as mixed up as the weather. When the lily was done blooming at Easter, Cora planted the bulb outside and despite the recent frost, it is blooming again. Dungannon United Church Rev. R. J., Roberts spoke on the topic, Ambassadors for Christ. The senior choir sang the anthem, He's the Lily of the Valley to My Soul. The junior choir sang, A Sunbeam. Dungannon Church is holding a Fowl Supper on November 10 with sittings at 5 and 7 p.m. Tickets are available by contacting Sally Wright or Mrs. Gordon Saunders. The box for Zehr's tapes at the back of the church is placed there by the choir to help in purchasing music. The Dungannon children's choir will meet on Wednes- day night. Adult choir meets Thursday night and children may come too. Flowers were placed in the church from the funeral of William Reed, father . of Lynda McNee and Pat Thom- son. CIVIC CORNER The Goderich Planning Board will meet today, Wednesday, November 3 at noon in town hall. The Property Standards Committee will meet Friday, November 5 at 4 p.m. in town hall. John wood hmiit:d Residents of Maitland Manor and Grade 1 students from Robertson Public School' enjoyed a Hallowe'en party together on Friday. The children and residents played various games and were treated to Hallowe'en goodies. Two of the residents, Dolly Bruce (left) and Helen Fulford decided to have a little extra fun, so they put on special Hallowe'en makeup and hats.(photo by T.Marr) Neighbours say goodbye to Moncriefs A number of neighbours gathered in Lucknow Wed- nesday evening in the Com- munity Centre to pay their respects as a going away gesture to Dr. Russell and Lesley Moncrief before they move to Aylmer next week. A friendly game of euchre was played by all. Russell and Lesley were presented with a lovely elect- ric clock. The reading of fare- well was given by Jean Farrish and was written by Florence MacKenzie, who was unable to attend on account of illness. Bertha MacKenzie gave the presen- tation. Congratulations to Debbie Lowry of R. R. 1 Kincardine, daughter of Perrin and Mar- ion Lowry, who won the Bruce County Ontario Wom- en's institute Scholarship award. Debbie was crowned Miss Ripley Fall Fair Queen a couple of years ago and then went on to be crowned Miss Mid -Western Ontario 1981- 82. Debbie is a very talented young lady and we wish to congratulate her and wish her the very best in her future endeavours. Mrs. Dorothy Finlayson was in Toronto for a few days visiting her family. Lorne and Maxine Luther were in Ridgetown on the weekend visiting their . fe1a- tives. Elmer .Culbert and Finlay MacDonald were in Listowel on Wednesday to the horse auction. OPP constable explains bus safety By Heidi Fillmore Angela Milian and Chris Simpson Constable Gosse of .the OPP was at Brookside last week to explain to the students about bus safety. He reviewed the rules and conducted emergency escape procedures from a bus with the students. Mr. Damien Sullivan, French Co-ordinator, who visited the French classes and discussed the • program with the teacher of French, Miss Joanne Bode. Brookside Broadcast: On October 29, the Stud- ent's Council held a Hallow- e'en dress up dance at noon for grades 5 - 8. Kevin Haggitt was chosen King and Heidi Fillmore was Queen. Kindergarten to grade 4 had a dress up parade later in the afternoon. • The Prince chosen for best costume was Stuart Bakker' and Princess was Melissa McLennan. Consolation prizes went to Mrs. Jolly and the Myster- ious Herb. Winner of the draw for a Witch Cookie was Chris Farrish, room 9. Mrs. Liddle's grade 6 class took a field trip on Thursday when they visited the Tree Seed Plant at Angus, the Military Museum at Camp Borden and the Midhurst Tree Nursery where their tour guide was Mel Crich, formerly. of Clinton. Jim Boak accompanied Mr. Liddle and the class as a volunteer aide. The students were partic- ; ularly interested to see what happens to the cones they have been gathering this fall to send to the Tree Nursery. . They collected about 6 hecta- litres, the proceeds of which will' help finance a campout, next sprang. On October 22 and 23 Mrs. Graham attended an Art Workshop in Sudbury where she heard interesting speak- ers and gained some fresh ideas for Art classes. WMS hold Thankoffering meeting The October Thankof- fering meeting of the W.M.S. Afternoon Auxiliary was held in Knox Church parlour Tuesday, October 26 at 2:30 p.m. The President, Mrs. Gordon Henderson, welcomed all and opened the meeting with the special. Thanksgiving Order of Service after which Mrs: Oz. Falkiner read the Scripture, Psalm 107,1-15. Miss. Mildred Marwick, secretary, read the minutes of the last meeting and the roll call showed 28 members present. • Mrs. Agnes MacEwan gave the treasurer's report and took up the offering which was dedicated by the president. • Mrs. Girvin Young gave the "Fellowship of the Least Coin" which this month had the theme "Child Abuse". An invitation was received from Barbara Kirkman Auxiliary and Afternoon Auxiliary' -"-r rth to attend their Thanko$nering meeting Wednesday, October 27. Mrs. O. Falkiner reported several cards had been sent to members who were ill. Glad Tidings subscriptions were due andmany have renewed their subscriptions. The closing date is the November meeting. Mrs. E. Bogie reported on Friendship and Service: Thanksgiving leaflets had been given to Huronview, Maitland Manor and Maple Grove Lodge and visits have been made to several. Anyone having Zehrs tapes are urged to leave them in the box in the church narthex or give them to the president. The nominating com= mittee are at work for the 1983 slate of officers and members were asked to give a favourable reply if possible when asked to serve on the 1983 slate of officers. Members were informed of the Bible Study meeting at Knox, November 8 at 2 p.m. in the church parlor. Everyone is welcome. Members were also in- formed that quilts and blankets are needed for Ewart College: Several members and members of the Arthur Circle attended :the Stratford Presbyterial W.M.S. Fall Rally at Shakespeare Presbyterian Church, Tuesday, October 19 and reported a very en- joyable meeting. The president introduced the guest speaker, Reverend G. Lockhart Royal who spoke on the theme "Faith". He referred back to Martin Luther who sought for a better understanding bet- ween himself and God through Jesus Christ when he asked himself the question, "Am I. saved or am I redeemed and how can I be sure?" Mrs. Henderson thanked Mr. Royal for his splendid message and the meeting closed with singing the hymn, "Come Ye Thankful People, Come" with Mrs. C. Edward at the piano and prayer. The 'Agawa Canyon cleared harbor October 29 for Milwaukee. The Cartierchiffe Hall arrived light to load corn here for the first time October 28 and cleared harbor for Toledo October 30.
