their second game of the season 4-1 against
Lucan at the Lucan arena on Saturday.

Goderich five minutes into the first period
with a goal on a beautiful set-up pass from
Jeff Hodges.
Lucan evened things up in the second
period and although Goderich was getting
more shots on net, they were unable to put
one by a superb Lucan goalie.
In the third period, Goderich's passing
plays really clicked as they bombarded the
Lucan goalie and scored three unanswered
goals; the first one by defenceman
Richard Bowman unassisted; the second
by Brian Lane assisted by Jason Pearson;
and the third one by Harrison assisted by

thir. undefeated season
BY TD
The GDCI Vikings completed their third
consecutive undefeated season in Huron -
Perth Conference football play by winning
twice last week. Tuesday, at home, the
Vikings crushed Stratford Northwestern 34
- 0. Thursday, in Exeter, the Vikes
defeated the South -Huron Panthers 14 -1.
The first place Vikings now play Clinton
Central Huron here Thursday at 1:30 in the
Huron -Perth semi-finals. Listowel and
South Huron meetin the other semi-final,
also on Thursday.
The Vikings held only a 6 0 lead over
Northwestern at half-time here Tuesday,
but came on strong in the second half to
turn the game into a rout.
Kevin Beattie got the Vikings' first half
touchdown on a 32 yard reverse. John
Thompson went over from the three yard
line in the third quarter for the Vikings se-
cond major. Trevor Erb caught a two-
point conversion pass to make the Vikings
lead 14-0 going into the final quarter;
Touchdowns by Kevin Feagan, Trevor
Erb and Scott Stokes in the fourth quarter
put the game away for the Vikes. John
Thompson kicked two converts. The
Stratford 6 - 4 gap defence kept the Viking
running attack to its lowest output of the
season. John Thompson carried eight
times for 61 yards, and Kevin Feagan had
nine carries, netting 49 yards. The Vikings
made up for their decreased running at- ,
tack by an effective passing game. John
Thompson was two for four. and Steve
Bugler six for six in the passing depart-
ment; good for a total of 224 yards.
Receiver Scott Stokes caught five passes
for 91 yards.
The Viking defence held their team in,
especially in the first quarter when the of-
fence could not move the ball. Twice they
held the Northwestern offence pointless on
first down situations inside the Goderich 20
yard line. The Vikes blocked 'a field goal
attempt and stopped the other drive on a
third down and short yardage attempt.
The Vikings' victory over third place Ex-
eter was a low -scoring affair with tough
defensive play by both teams.
Kevin Beattie got both Viking
touchdowns in the second quarter. Both
were on reverses, one of 17 yards, the other
an 85 yarder. John Thompson kicked both
convert attempts successfully. Exeter
kicked a single with the wind in the third
quarter.
Rick Haas made key blocks on both Vik-
ing touchdowns. Kevin Feagan led the Vik-
ing ground attack with 123 yards gained.
The Viking defence was the key to the
Goderich victory. Fumble recoveries by
Jeff LeBeau and Kevin Telford and an in-
terception by Grant Garrow highlighted
the defensive effort. The Viking defence
allowed only 37 points in seven league
games, and 22 of the points were sur-
rendered in the first gamed the season.

Although the Vikings played well in the
first half Thursday; they let down in the,se-
cond half and Exeter gained the momen-
tum. The Vikings ran into a rash • of
penalties which nullifed any good plays
they did make. Vikings' •coach. Ray Don-
nelly felt his team wasrpfortunate»to hold on
for the -vi reT 'k'G 'd-: -'»ain c
penalties to South Huron's one.
The Viking ground game was effective,
picking up a total of 250 yards,. but again
