About
with Martha
Martha Rathburn .
Monday morning is. look-
ing dull and rainy but I don't
mind. I'm still vibrating
from that beautiful presenta-
tion of 'The Desert Song' so
many of us enjoyed Sunday
night at the G.D.C.I.
auditorium.
The voices, the acting, the
scenery - even the camel -
were outstanding - and those
beautiful old songs - you
could hear the humming
from the audience as they
were being sung. I know that
everyone was as thrilled as
1.
I have loved those songs
for so many years - there has
never been any to replace
them or make me forget
• them. (Too) many years ago
I had seen the movie . and I
remember ,the lovely voices
of that time. Only beautiful
• voices can do justice to that
kind of music.
And — I believe it was
therapeutic - my aches and
pains seem to have disap-
U:two nice people who
willHow about THAT! I
will be happy to hear about it
anyway. .
Since my comments about
the Little Lakes, I have been
back twice to gaze at them
and take more pictures. But
you can't capture what you
see with a camera. It doesn't
have a mind — or an im-
agination that goes with it —
a true recording of what you
see. Don't argue with me.
What one needs is SKILL to
interpret what you see.
Sometimes I think I don't
have any!
Anyway - I was_happy to
see that there LS a spot for a
couple of cars to pull off for a
few Minutes and farther on a
place where you might sit for
a while and enjoy the quiet
noise of nature.
A QUIET SPOT '-
something we need badly in
this day and age. A place
where you can relax - fall
apart - and put yourself back
together again and go away
feeling fresh and whole
again.
Thank you, fellows, for
your thoughtfulness. We will
enjoy Mother Nature's
backyard and not abuse it.
• And woe betide the bum who
• leaves garbage and damage
around there!
Sometimes, on your way,
drive slowly, as there are
many interesting things you
may miss — (I usually miss
the turn!). Thee are some
very pretty farms along the
way. One nice littleilouse,__
itff some Or the ginger-
bread of its day smiles at
you as you pass. I try to
remember where it is and
• slow up and enjoy it.
Then there's • thelittle
house on the top of the hill. It
is hidden by large trees now
but you look down the
driveway and see the barns
are over the hill at a much
lower level. The man who
built that house knew what
he wanted. He had a viewuf •
the Maitland River Valley
that is just priceless. And he
KNEW it. He could look out
• of ANY window and see the
beautiful countryside - what
a pleasure it must have
been. Of course, he must
have had strong legs to go up
and. down so many times to
his barns and his work - but
I'll bet he didn't complain. I
would like to have known
him. Can someone tell me
about him? Please?
This Thufsday,.0dOber
the Little Theatre box office
opens in Mr. Reg Bell's front--
office. There are quite a few.. .
wh6 ' do not have their
mbeihip CardS, hOPe
they will go into the.. box.of-
fire for them this time. With.
all the happerkrgs, it has
been impossible to contact
all of the members. The first
performance of "The Cactus
Flower°' with Anna Melski
as, director goes on the
boards Thursday, October 28
and Friday, October 29, then
November 4, 5 and 6. It is a
great play and I know you
will enjoy it and enjoy
meeting a number of new
players - new faces on the
G.L.T. roster.
So, it now looks like a nice
day - Monday so I hope you
enjoyed it.
Love,
Martha.
