to perform
Orchestra London will
perform their first Rotary -
sponsored concert of the
season here on October 29 at
North Street United Church,
featuring the Symphonia
conducted by Alexis Hauser.
The soloist on this occasion
will be the celebrated and
familiar concert master
Eduard Minevich. Eduard
was concert master of the
Leningrad Concert
Orchestra for six years prior
to his emigrating to Canada.
Since then he has delighted
many audiences with his
Gypsy music. His talent and
virtuosity will give everyone
a night to remember.

75 YEARS AGO
On Sunday afternoon
between one and two o'clock
fire broke out in the office of
F.J. Pridham, merchant
tailor and caused con-
siderable damage. Smoke
was first discovered by the
Central telephone office next
door and the alarm sent up
promptly.
The visit of Professor
Tyler and Miss Bessie
Benton to the Goderich rink
tonight is an event well
worth seeing. They are
advertised as the finest
fancy roller skaters in' the
world.
Mr. F.C. Hennicke of
Buffalo spent two days in
town this week. He is . in-
terested in the establishment
of an iron -and brass -bedstead
factory in Goderich. '
_The- schooner ._- rnas
Quaid, which had brought in
coal for the water works and
was in port over two weeks,
left port on. Wednesday for
Cleveland in tow of a tug.
40 YEARS AGO
Huron County's Victory
loan total, as given out at
Clinton headquarters last
night, was $290,000, but this
did not include Wednesday's
sales. In the first three days
of the campaign, Goderich
salesmen sold $80,000 worth
of bonds, exclusive of in-
dustrial workers and special
names.
Most auspicious of
ceremonies marking the
opening of the third Victory
loan campaign in Goderich
was the victory parade and
the public meeting held
-afterward in the Court
House. Over 200 airmen.were
in line, including.150 student
pilots from Sky Harbor and
50 from Port Albert.
Warden George Arm-
strong has called meetings of
reeves and councils for the
purpose of organizing a
county -wide salvage cam-
paign.
25 YEARS AGO
Town council decided
Tuesday night to take im-
mediate steps to repair the
arena floor at an estimated
cost of $5,713.
When Miss Rosemary
McGuire, RN, walked off
duty at Alexandra . Marble •
and General Hospital at 7:30
'p.m. last Wednesday, she
officially ended 39 years of
work associated with the
nursing profession.
Duke Ellington's world-
fanous band played at the
Goderich arena Friday
night.
When .the CNR passenger `
pain pulls into Goderich at
11:10 Saturday night, it will
mark the end of a night. train
service on this line into
Goderich that has been
carried on. for 99 years.

Dunlop midget girls' softball
team downed Harriston 2-0
Tuesday in a fifth and
deciding game to win the
WOAA championship.
A ratepayers' association
may be formed in Goderich

A 19 -mile lakeshore study

and the Maitland Valley
Conservation Authority, will
seek input from a selection of
Goderich citizens.
Town council has decided
that it is premature to ad-
vertise for an engineer or
engineer -technician for
Goderich.
