The group is conducting a fund-raising drive during the month •of October and council referred the matter to the finance co#nanittee for con - 'sideration. The group needs to raise $70,000 in 1982. Most of that amount will be used to provide care for those who cannot 'afford the full cost. Another $20;000 is needed to.pay off the mortgage on the group's office. Relocate rocks The Ministry of the Environment has ` given the town permission to relocate some of the large stone around the water treatment plant. The stone, to be used in the development of St. Christopher's Beach, will aid in bank erosion. The -.Ministry, however, instructed the town not 'to relocate stone on the west and 4 south sides of the treatment plant. az Operations officer, R.M. Bell, indicated E1n the letter that 50 per cent of the stone • around the plant could be used for im- E prOvements at the beach. ba= OMB approval The Ontario Municipal Board has ordered that the town's application for approval to proceed with works under the Ontario Neighbourhood Improvement Program be granted. In granting the 5 application, the OMB; has set aside a petition from a group of citizensob• t lecting to the vote dispensation on the matter. Lr M ITY NrWS Snow tender Council agreed to accept a tender from C. Mathers for snow removal. Council received four tenders on the snow removal project at its October 18 meeting. Permits up Building permits. issued by the town of Goderich have increased slightly over the same period last year. Building in- spector Doug Harrison reports that the number of permits issued has risen to 129 from 127 during the same period last year, but, the dollar value is lagging by $100,000. The most noteworthy statistic is that three new dwelling units have been built this year at a. total cost of $242,000 compared to one the previous year at $56,x• One more time Goderich town council, in its present form, will have only one more . meeting prior to the November 8 municipal election. Please notiee \the word • t`resident" 715089bas-no in- tention of RETIRING. There are. many suggestions and lans for an interesting and aried future. The brand new spur in the park resembles the ,familiar nor- thern well -used spurs, with the Bayfield River rippling hy, many' green trees. - and the happy sounds of children it play. The CNR and Department of Education built and,plann- ed this compact railway car for educating children in isolated , areas of northern. Ontario. It was operated by the Fred Sloman •family. of Clinton for several decades. For the last number of years the 15089 has been empty and does not look beautiful at present. Under ;the leadership of Craig and Glen Bowker of Clinton who already own a caboose, they are ' donating quarters 'towards new, shiny green and have collected a ,paint fund of $310.00. The School Car was in a fire after 1964 and so it does notlook at all like its former self. It has 'no windows or doors or anything at all in the interior. But Clinton does not think of that at all. The, .entire totemn thinks only of the future .- , and `many eager hands are: waiting to begin the- restoration, according to co-ordinator Margaret Sloman. . Within hours of arriving at the park, the PUC will have electricity available - a lux- ury uxury that 15089 has never known in its 78 years!. Will the School Car feel lonely in 'southern Ontario? ' It is very unlikely, because of all the pen pals in the church groups and service clubs. These ladies knitted and sewed somany lovely brand, new clothes for brand new ,northern • babies ' who ..otherwise, would only have "hand-me-downs" from brothers and sisters. These lucky parents felt the spirit ' of .Christmas, all :year round, thinking that . their new babies were thought of, miles away, by ladies who cared about them. The gentlemen sent skis and skates and baseball bats - very important items also, because a. lot of education comes • from playing, especially when the. group of Children might speak. dif- FARMERS FOR A GOOD FARM BUILDING ATA COMPETITIVE PRICE PHONE -RAY LAMBERS CONST. 482-3305 -CLINTON FREE ESTIRliA TES rri De04 4t,.sem" EST. 1175 61,4 GOLDSMITH -SILVERSMITH j JEWELLERY DESIGNER. Then a special train, "an extra" brings it to Clinton at 11 a.m. A mover from Oil Springs will take 15089 to the park - all 55 'tons - down Matilda Street.- Clinton treet.-Clinton wishes to invite you to' see 15069 -at anytime - and td be part of the welcom- ing crowd on October 22 and share in the "railroad cake" party.
