Couple reside in Goderich
following wedding in Knox
Knox Presbyterian Chapel
was the scene of a pretty'fall
wedding on Saturday,
September 25 at 4 p.m. when
Gerald Gordon Hoelscher
and 'Lisa Karen Christensen,
both of Goderich, were
united in marriage.
The groom is the son of
Glenda Hoelscher of
Goderich and the bride is the
daughter of Gunnar and
Evelyn Christensen, also of
Goderich.
The Reverend G.L. Royal
officiated at the double -ring
ceremony.
The bride was given m
marriage by her father. She
wore a ballerina length gown
of white satin with net
overskirt inset with lace. She
carried a silk ' nosegay of
pink roses and white car-
nations.
Maid of honor was Stella

annual rally of W st Huron Regi n
The Huron -Perth
Presbyterial held their 21st
annual rally of the West
Huron Region at Dungannon
United Church on October 6.
Registration began at 9:30
a.m. and at 10 a.m. the
president, Mrs. Shirley
Hackett opened the meeting.
She announced the theme,
"The Light Shines in the
Darkness and the Darkness
has not Overcome it." (John
1:5) and read a poem The
Beacon Light of Faith
followed by a prayer.
Mrs. G. McNee welcomed
the ladies to the rally at
Dungannon Church.
A group of Dungannon
ladies led a sing song at
hymns and the group sang a
number, "Standing on the
Solid Ground"
Mrs. Grace Pym brought
greetings from Huron -Perth
Presbyterial. She thanked
Mrs. S. Hackett for her work
as president and expressed
the good communication
there was with the groups.

20th anniversary fund of $20
extra from each group.
Mrs. Ahna Langford gave
the treasurers' report in the
absence off Mrs. Jean Hanly.
She spoke of the importance
of Stewardship and gave the
expenditures balance on
hand and budget for 1983.
Mrs. , Leila Finkbeiner,
literature, spoke of some of
the hooks she had on .hand.
The books were displayed in
the basement where the
ladies had an opportunity to
see and buy them.
Elva Armstrong, Carol
McDowell, Janny Koopmans
and Marilyn Verbeek of
Auburn U.C.W. presented a
comical skit entitled "St.
Peter Look at Me."
Trinity U.C.W. members,
Dora Alton and Wilma Blake
played two beautiful num-
bers on their violins, ac-
companied by Ruth Alton at
the piano.
Mrs. Janet Kalbfleisch.
North St., Goderich U.C.W.
introduced the Bible Study, a
portion of scripture found in
the first Epistle of John,
Chapter I and verses 1-17 in
Chapter 2.
The ladies were divided
into six groups for
discussion. Leaders of these
groups were Mrs. 0.
Kniseley, 'Mrs. E. Walker,"
Mrs. Z. Crawford, Mrs. N.
Paquette, Mrs. L. McGill
and Mrs. S. McMillan.
Each group reported on
the results of their
discussion. Comments were
also made on the enjoyment
of their discussion.
Mrs. Z. Crawford thanked
Mrs. I. Hackett who has held
the office of president for the
past two years.
Mrs. Hackett introduced
the new president, Mrs.
Marilyn Beecroft of Auburn.
Following the singingof
grace, a delicious luncheon
was enjoyed by the ladies.
The afternoon session was
opened with a worship
service presented by Mrs. G.
Caldwell and Mrs. R.
Caldwell of Blyth. "Lighting
our Lamps" was the theme
of service. Offering
was received by ladies of
Donnybrook U.C.W. Half the
collection was to be given to
"Seeds for Zaire" and the
other half to C.G.I.T.
Mrs: Mary Currell of
Victoria St. Church,
Goderich U.C.W. introduced
the speaker, Mrs. Margaret
Beecroft of Wingham.
U.C.W. is celebrating its
20th anniversary this year.
Mrs. Beecroft spoke about
"Where we come from" and
"where are we going" in
U.C.W. groups. Small groups
of ladies gathered in the
churches to help as early as
1750 and in 1880 W.M.S. and
W.A. groups were formed. In
1962 these groups united and
became U.C.W. (United
Church Women). Mem-
bership has declined in the
past 20 years.
Members were asked by
Mrs. Beecroft to volunteer
reasons for belonging to
their U.C.W. groups.
Fellowship and caring for
others were the two im-
portant reasons given.
Groups are trying to en-
courage younger women to
join them. The speaker
asked members to give
serious thought to where
they are going.

beautiful solos accompanied
by Mrs. H. Feagan at the
piano.

U.C.W. presidents an-
swering the question, "A
very important aspect of our
U.C.W. monthly meetings?"
Mrs. Z. Crawford extended
an invitation to the ladies to
attend the 1983 Rally to be
held at North Street Church,
Goderich.
Courtesy remarks were
given by Mrs. Myrtle Kerr,
Nile U.C.W.
The closing hymn was
sung and benedictiongiven
by the Reverend George
Cowan, Dungannon.

Once again Bell Canada is
promoting long distance gift
certificates as Christmas
gifts, starting November 1.
'The gift certificates are an
attractive greeting card with
a booklet of four, $5 gift
certificate cheques inside.
The cheques will be sold in
$20 packages only.
The company is selling the
certificates in co-operation
with the Transcanada
Telephone System and its
member companies. In
addition, almost all North
American telephone com-
panies, with the exception of
a few, independents, will be
offering the gift certificates
for sale.

buy the gift certificates by

Although the gift cer-
tificates are primarily
designed to pay for long
distance calling, Bell says
that they can be used for
paying a telephone bill or
any type oftelephone pur-

The gift certificates will be
accepted by the major
telephone companies in
Canada and the United
States, however, at this time
they will not be accepted
overseas.
