HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Goderich Signal-Star, 1982-10-20, Page 13Ausurn club enjoys way The 3M club met on Sunday evening in Knox United Church with Mr. and Mrs. Glen Webster, Mr. and Mrs. Elliott Lapp and Mr. and Mrs. Tom Cunningham in charge. The club was divided into groups for a scavenger hunt and a visit with people in the village. In their hunt they were to bring back a guest for lunch. The winners were the team of Mrs. Lawrence Plaetzer, Mrs. John Hildebrand and Maurice Bean for first prize. The second prize winners were Norman Wightman, Mrs. Barry Millian and Bob Worsell. Glen Webster led in a short business meeting. ACW meet The Anglican Church Women of. St. Mark's Anglican Church met at the home of the president Mrs. Donald Cartwright. She opened the meeting with the hymn. The scripture lesson, was read by Mrs. Tom Haggitt followed by prayers by Mrs. Cartwright. The business was taken by the president and Mrs. Tom Haggitt gave the financial statement. Mrs. William Craven reported on the Fall Deanery meeting. The of- fering and the travelling apron was passed and Rev. William Craven closed the meeting with prayer. Lunch was served •• rs. Cart- wright assi ir" by Mrs. Haggitt. UCW go bowling • Unit I of the Knox United Church Women met October 12 and 16 travelled to Clinton for an evening of bowling. Mrs. Keith Rodger received a prize for her high score. After bowling, Mrs. Fred Armstrong entertained the group at her home. She opened the meeting with a Thanks-gi.-ving. poem- and - Mrs. Jack Armstrongled in prayer. Mrs. Maurice Bean, the president took charge of the business and the minutes were read by secretary Mrs. Tena Empey. Mrs. Fred Armstrong reported on the church cleaning for ' the month of October. The Unit . Members are supplying lunch for the Junior Choir members at each practice. If anyone wishes to. donate Some cookies please contact Mrs. Bean. Mrs. Jack Armstrong reported on the work to be done in fixing up the kitchen. She stated that a new floor and new ceiling are being considered the most im- portant now. Some men in the congregation have volunteered to help. Unit I are to be in charge of the lunch for them October Thankoffering meeting on October 26th. Mrs. Bean closed the meeting with a poem. Mrs. Vera Lavigne and Mrs. Laura Bennett remained for a longer holiday. Mr. Robert Armstrong and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Arm- strong received word last week that their cousin Miss Winnie Vanstone of Toronto had fallen and fractured her hip and is a patient in a Toronto hospital. A large congregation was present last Sunday in Knox United Church Auburn for the annual anniversary service. Rev. Bonny Smith, B.A. M.Div. was in charge and the organist Mrs. Florence Wightman and pianist. Mrs. Nancy Park were in charge of the music. Miss Smith chose for her message - Having Faith in the Future and duets were sung by Mrs. June Eicholz and Mrs: Bonnie Armour of Waterloo. The .offering was received by Alison Cham- ney, Susan Dobie, Regan Millian and Kevin Webster. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Baechler and their daughters Mrs. Linda Renon, Tracy, Robert and Cathy spent Sunday in Guelph at the former's' daughter Mrs. Tom Van- derburgh, Mr. Vanderburgh, Steven, and Kristen. The Booster Club met at the home of Mrs. Allan Craig. A discussion took place about the craft and bazaar in the Auburn Community Memorial hall to be held now on November 20, 10. a.m. to 5 p.m. Mrs. Ross Daer and Miss Lorie Cart- wright areto be in charge of selling table space at $5 per table. Mrs. George Collins is to be in charge of publicity. There will also be a bake table and lunch is to be available in the hall. A surprise farewell party to Mrs. Gary Deveau a charter member was held. She is moving the end of October to Goderich. Mrs. Tryouts held for school track team. by Angela Millian and. Heidi Fillmore On Wednesday, October 13, tryouts for the cross country race were held. The finals are being held at Point Farms on Wednesday, October 20. On the evening of Wed- nesday, October 13, Open House was held at 7:00 p.m. Parents visited classrooms and spoke with teachers about their children's work. At 7:15 there was a film about Enrichment and the Gifted, followed by a video tape called "How We Learn" Brookside Broadcast ng Doug Charnney spoke a few words and presented her with a gift. Pat thanked her friends and lunch was served by Mrs. Craig, Mrs. George Collins and Mrs. Doug Chamney. UCW give thanks The October meeting of Unit 2 of the Knox United Church Women was held October 12th in the Sunday School room of the church. Mrs. Gerald McDowell and Mrs. Ruurd Koopmans were in charge of the program. The theme was Thanksgiving. Mrs. McDowell opened the meeting by reading a poem. The hymn, was sung with Mrs. Kenneth McDougall as pianist. The scripture lesson was read by Mrs. Koopmans followed by the meditation by Mrs. MCDowell. Mrs. Koopmans read an article. Mrs. McDowell received the offering and Mrs. Koopmans dedicated it with prayer. Mrs. McDowell read a message on Thanksgiving. Mrs. Tom Jardin in the r hunt absence of the leader, Mrs. Donald Haines conducted the business. She opened with a poem and the minutes were read by the secretary Mrs. Oliver Anderson and she read the thank -you notes that were received. The Autumn. Thanksgiving meeting will be held on October 26 and plans were made. Mr. George Cowan of Blyth will be guest speaker. The program committee will be Mrs. Oliver Anderson, Mrs. Gerald McDowell and Mrs. Torn Jardin. It was announced that Mrs. Ernest Durnin and her group. will, be in charge of the , Lion's Club dinner on October 20th. Mrs. Tom Jardin and Mrs. Kenneth McDougall will write to the shut-in members during the month. The financial statement was given by Mrs. Stewart Ball.
