WMS holds fall rally in Hensall

Huron Presbyterial of the
Women's Missionary Society
of the Presbyterian Church
met for a fall rally in Carmel
Presbyterian Church, Hen-
sall. The president Mrs.
Clayton Edward of Goderich
was in charge and Mrs.
Dorothy Taylor was the
pianist. The minutes were
read by the secretary Mrs.
Eleanor Bradnock and the
financial statement was
read ,by treasurer, Mrs.
Frances Clark.
The secretaries gave
reports - Glad Tidings - Mrs.
Bert McCreath, Goderich;
Children's - Miss Mildred
Marwick, Goderich; Youth
groups - Mrs. T. Duke,
Seaforth; Supply -
Mrs.Harold Rivers, Seafor-
th; Associate members -
Mrs. May Habkirk, Seafor-
th; Friendship and Service -
Mrs. Harvey Hyde, Hensall.

their meeting at

the South Pacific - the island
Vanuatu was the theme of
the study with Mrs. Donald
Croft of Goderich giving the
history of the island and the
work that the missionaries
are doing. In the other
group, Mrs. Stewart McCall
and Mrs. Joyce Garrick of
Goderich demonstrated how
to make the hibiscus, the
native flower of Vanuatu and
everyone made one for
themselves.
The history of the island
was told by Mrs..Bill Smith,
Mrs. Elmer Rivers, Mrs.
Tom Duke and Mrs. Mabel
McMichael of Seaforthin
costume. They told the story
of Rev. John Geddes in 1856
and his wife in the early days
at the New Hebrides Mission
in the South Pacific.
Mrs. Edward thanked the
ladies for their excellent
presentations. rt was an-
nounced that the Arthur
Circle would be the
.nominating committee and a
vote of thanks was given to
Miss Belle Campbell for her
years as historian of Huron
Presbyterial. The groups
were asked to make some
quilts for Ewart College,
Toronto and Armagh to
replace some which are no
longer usable.
The offering was received
by Mrs. Marlene Bell and
Mrs. Jean Snell of Hensall.
Lunch was served by the
Hensall ladies.

group plans
workshop series
The Huron County group,
Women Today, has planned
a second annual series of
wnrkshons.

"It's Just Your Nerves” is
the, title of the first session,
to be held at Seaforth Public
School in Seaforth in
November, followed by
"Dependence -
Independence" in Exeter in
December. Women and the
media is the topic of the
January session, to be held
in Wingham. All the
workshops will be held in the
evenings, with exact dates
and locations to be an-
nounced.
A day long seminar on
creativity will be held in
February,with another day
long stgsion, on "Com-
munication in Partnerships"
for men and women to be
held in the Goderich area in
March. Also in.- February,.
Women Today will host an
evening workshop on aging
and self-esteem, titled
"When the Bloom is. Of the
Rose", to be held in Clinton. •
A session on domestic
violence is planned for April
and will be held in Clinton,
while a workshop entitled
"Birthing: Options and
Opportunities" will be held
in Goderich in May. Both are
evening sessions.
Women Today will have 'a
display on the group's
educational activities over
its two year history at the
Rural Women and Mental
Health conference in Port
Elgin October 29-31.

October llth at the Com-
munity Centre at
Holmesville.
An invitation was read
from the Auburn Women's
Institute asking us to help
them celebrate their 60th An-
niversary on Tuesday,
November 2nd at 12:30: Lun-
cheon tickets are available
until October 25th and if you

Two resolutions were read
' which will be presented at
the London Area Convention
to be held October 27th and
28th at the St. Marys Arena
and Community Centre. It
was asked that someone
donate, or make a sugges-
tion regarding a craft or
crafts to be sold at the con-
vention for a total of $3 or $5.

on the Huron County Rally
held in Grand Bend recently.

Hill. Mr. Hill presented
slides and gave a very in-
teresting - and informative
talk' relating how "Agri
Skills Abroad" is assisting,
and hopes to assist further,
at an Orphange Farm in Mia
Catlan about 150 miles from
Mexico City. It is hoped to
teach the boys at this or-
phanage (sometimes up' to
1200 of them) how to become
better farmers by helping
them to learn to grow more
productive crops and how to
care, maintain and operate
equipment used in order to
run the farm.

Chess Club results
Louis Stadelmann and

form last week by winning
both of their games. They,
are now the only players
undefeated in the regular
standings.
