Township clerk Robin Thompson reported that nominations have been extended to 5 p.m: Tuesday - in the hopes of filling two vacancies on council. Grant Stirling has been acclaimed reeve and Jake Reeder becomes the deputy - reeve by acclamation. There are three positions available on council but only Pat Osborn will seek re-election. The nomination period was extended one day in the hopes of filling the two vacant council seats. Clinton Campus caII 4824458 Township man dies at 7 BENJAMIN MASON HOMAN Benjamin Mason Homan of Colborne Township died m Alexandra Marine and General Hospital, Goderich on Saturday, October 16 in his 79th year. He was born June 8, 1904 in Oakland, California, the son of Ralph and Mary (Broder- son) Homan. He is survived by his wife, the former Beulah Jane San- dy; one daughter, Mrs. Douglas (Sandra) Stothard of Harrow; one son, Keith of Colborne Township; three grandchildren; and ' two sisters, Mrs. Julia Soothill and Mrs. Grayce Hellmers, both of Long Beach, Califor- nia. A private grave -side ser- vice and interment took place at Colborne Cemetery on Monday afternoon, Oc- tober 18. The Reverend G.L. Royal officiated. McCallum Funeral Home was in charge of the .ar- xangements. MISS MAUDE A. BEACOM Miss Maude A. Beacom, of Maitland Manor Nursing Home, Goderich died Saturday, October 16 in Alexandra Marine and General Hospital at the age of 91. She was born in Goderich on February 1, 1891 to John and Elizabeth (Ward) Beacom. She was a life-long resident of Goderich ,and OBITUARIES RHO worked as a saleslady in a dry goods store. She was a member of North Street United Church, Goderich. She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Noble (Phoebe) Young of Goderich and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three sisters, Mrs. John (Mary) Harris, Elizabeth Beacom and Mrs. Sam (Sarah) Gascho; and one brother, George Beacom. A funeral service *as held at Stiles Funeral Home in Goderich onMonday, October 18 at ,g.�p.m. The Reverend Robeli 0. Ball officiated. Interment was in the Maitland Cemetery. Pallbearers were Wayne, Harold and Ron Young, Ross Feagan, Don Harris and Richard Madge. MRS, MERRILL KELLEY Mrs. Merrill (Killough) Kelley of 95 East William Street, Seaforth, died Friday, October 15 in Seaforth Community Hospital in her 81st year. She was a member of Northside United Church in Seaforth. She is survived by her husband William; one son, James of Toronto; and •one sister, Mabel of Huronview. She was predeceased by one sister, Elva. A funeral service was held at the Whitney-Ribey Funeral Home, 87 Goderich Street West, Seaforth on Monday, October 18 at 1 p.m. The Reverend James Van Slyke officiated. Interment was in Dungannon Cemetery. Pallbearers were Peter Rapadopolous, Carl Leonhardt, Russel Coleman, Ronny Bennett, Harold Vincent and Lloyd McDowel. She is survived by her hus- band Harvey; one son, Jerry Shields of Trenton, Michigan; one sister, Verna Alston of Sudbury; six grandchildren; five great- grandchildren; and seven sisters-in-law, Hazel Habel, Erma Anderson, Cora Sher- wood, Georgia Finnigan, Ada Ainslie, Nell Bradford and Marie Spencer. - A funeral service was held at the Harvey A. Neely Funeral Home in Livonia, Michigan on Thursday, Oc- tober 14. Lack of candidatesfor Colborne Township council While there is a heated race far mast positions in town for seats on council, PUC and board of education, the situation is just- the --- reverse in Colborne Township. Township clerk Hudson Milburn said the nomination period was extended through Tuesday because of a lack of candidates for council. The reeve and deputy -reeve position have been filled by acclamation but only two names have been submitted for the three positions on council. Former township reeve, William Bogie, is not seeking re-election and J. Russel Kernighan has taken over the position by acclamation. William Vanstone becomes the deputy -reeve by acclamation and Grant MacPhee and Doug Stoll have filed nomination papers for council positions. One more councillor is needed and Milburn said the nomination deadline was extended to- 5- parr. Tuesday: Councillor Glen Ribey is not seeking re-election. Rotarians see slides on Britain Norm McHolm gave an interesting talk and slide presentation on his recent visit to Britain and more specifically the outer islands. when the Goderich Rotary Club met Tuesday at noon. ` There was a record tur- nout for attendance at the meeting. - The Rotary Charity Ball held Saturday night was an unqualified success with John Banter, Garry Sholdice apd Ken McGee spearheading the project.
