Friends • raise money The "Friends of the Library" would like to in- form the community about their accomplishments since their last meeting. In May, they sponsored the annual book sale at the Goderich Branch Library. Some of the funds from this event helped to pay for a muclf needed set of cup- boards now installed in the staff and reference room. Funds also paid for a bicycle rack made by Jim Wallace of Sharpe's Creek Forge in Ben;niller. This addition greatly improved the outside appearance of the library where previously bicycles were just dropped. on the sidewalk. For some months, the library has been collecting Zehrs cash register tapes to help pay for a new 16zmn film projector. Please save your sales tapes and turn them in at the library during library hours. It is hoped that more funds' will be raised by the "Friends" at the Snowflake Bazaar which will be held at the Legion Hall on November 4. The group will have a miscellaneous table with a variety of donated articles. Any donations for this table would be greatly appreciated and can be left at the library prior to November 2 or call Margaret Bushell at 524-7734. Don't miss the next meeting, October 26 at the library at 8 p.m. when Martin Maurer, an exchange. student sponsored by the Goderich Rotary Club, will show slides of his year in Venezuela where he lived with a Spanish family. This. should be a special and in- formative event. Everyone is welcome to attend. It's bus safety week School Bus Safety Week is October 17 to 23. School authorities and bus operators will be involved in special safety programs. The theme for 1982, pro- posed by the Canada Safety Council, is "Get Involved!" The Council believes all Canadians can contribute to a safer en$ironment for school children: teachers, school bus drivers, parents, the general public, and the children themselves, should become involved. Parents have a special role because many school bus drivers say lack of discipline is one problem that affects safety on and around the school bus. When away from home, children learn from the ex- ample of their peers and older children they see daily, and what they learn may not always be desirable. Con- sequently, parents and teachers need to reinforce the rules of school bus safe- ty. The bus driver must keep full attention on'the task of driving, and.. should not have to deal with discipline pro- blemsat the same time. The Canada Safety Council says parents should take time to learn and understand how the school bus system operates, and should discuss with children the role of the driver, how to 'combat peer pressure, while ensuring.. that each child understands the various safety rules. What Canadian children learn now, as school bus passengers, will later be reflected in their attitudes as drivers, so the ramifications of school bus safety go far beyond the appearance, down the street, of "big yellow". Seminar planned A business management seminar on a very common problem -faced by businesgs Will be held al._ Conestoga.. College, Clinton, Campus, Huron Centre, Vanastra, on. November -2 and 9 from 7 to 10 p.m. The problem that will be discuss- ed is:. 'How to ,Arrange Financing". • This' seminar is in'gedl by the' Management Services -. Division of . the Federal • Business Development , Bank, and will be one of several hundred conducted by the E3ank in smaller cities and towns across Canada.
