prized limited edition drawing of Terry Fox by artist Cliff
Kearns to the student body of GDCI on behalf of the club.
Accepting the drawing is_principal John Stringer. Campbell
said he hoped the portrait would serve as an inspiration to
all students considering it portrayed the achievements of
Fox, his celebrated convictions, sheer determination and
the tremendous courage he displayed under stress in •

Tony McQuail of RR1, •
Lucknow was acclaimed as
president of the Huron
County Federation of
Agriculture at its • annual
meeting on Oct. 8.
Mr. McQuail takes over
from Gerry Fortune of RR 1,
Wingham who served a two-
year term as president. The
new president requested
those present to become
active members in the
federation and also stressed
co-operation between the
various farm organizations.
Jim McIntosh of RR 4,
Seaforth was named as first
vice-president. and Doug.
Garniss of RR 4, Wingham
was acclaimed as second,
vice-president.
The federation's con-
stitution was changed at the
annual meeting to allow
seven director's at large on
the executive when there is a
tie for sixth place. The
directors are Art Bolton of
RR 1, Dublin, Walter Elliott
of RR 1, Lucknow, Bob
Coleman of RR 4, Seaforth,
Doug Fortune of RR1,
Wingham, Brenda McIntosh
of . RR 4, Seaforth, Les
Caldwell of RR 3, Blyth and
Garry Baker of RR 2, Dash-
wood.
Couple celebrate Christmas instead
For. most of us, this was
our Thanksgiving holiday.
But for Sam and Nancy
Cowan of Port Albert, it was
a time to celebrate Christ-
mas with Sam as Santa
Claus, turkey dinner with all
the trimmings and presents
under t the tree. Sam and
Nancy, in mid-Qctober, head
to Florida wher4 they spend
the winter and just previous
to leaving, they have
Christmas dinner for the
family. Attending the unique

Cowan and children Kelly,
Guy and Jason from
Stouffville, Keith and Sandy
Cowan and children Blair
and Heather afrom
Mississauga and Brent and
Patty Cowan and children
Tracy and Benjamin from

Johannah Graf and son
Harold. Graf from Kitchener
spent the Thanksgiving
weekend at their cottage on,
Victoria Beach, Port Albert.
Last week, Johannah
celebrated her 90th birthday
at their home in Kitchener.
Over 100 guests attended a
party to honor Johannah who
enjoys spending as much
time . as possible at her
summer . cottage in Port
Albert where she has been
coming for 20 years. She is.
very fond of reading, cooking
and her garden.
Visiting at the cottage of
Mery and, Myra Lahn in Port
Albert were James and,
Barbara Bulmer and
daughter Alex Bulmer from
Hespeler, Andrea Thompson
and Peggy Lahn from

Barbara Allemang .is the
former Barbara Foster,
sister of Philip.
Last Monday evening,
Bessie Bellinger was ad-
mitted to AM&G Hospital. •
From all reports, the is now
making good progress.
Also a patient in the
hospital from the village is
one of the elderly residents,
Myrtle Hodges.
Church News
Communion was observed
at the Thanksgiving service
of Christ Anglican Church in
Port Albert Sunday. The
Reverend Robert Crocker
conducted the service. In his
sermon, , using the
Thanksgiving theme, he
stressed how fortunate we
are to be living in Canada.
Visitors were in at-
tendance from Woodstock,
Embro, Ingersoll, Sarnia,
London, Guelph,. Millgrove,
Waterdown and Dartmouth,
Nova Scotia.
A coffee hour was enjoyed
in the basement im-
mediately after the service.

ACW
Several members of the
ACW of Christ Anglican
Church, Port Albert, last
Tuesday travelled to Kingarf
to attend the fall deanery
meeting of the ACW. Sixty-
seven members registered.
The meeting was opened
with a Communion Service.
The noon day prayer and
study was conducted by
Jocelyn Daunt. Dorothy
Crocker from St. George's
Church in Goderich was' the
afternoon speaker and spoke
on the topic, `Women in the
Church Today.
Social News,
Roy Bellinger, Con-
servation Officer, reports in
a recent survey doneon local
rivers that' fishing generally
has been poor. Several
salmon have been taken
from the Maitland River.
Rainbow trout have been
caught in Lake Huron at the
mouth of the Nine .Mile
River. CKNX TV will visit
the fish ladder Tuesday at 11
a.m. and take pictures of the
fish being Jagged and
processed.

taking in the' Agawa Canyon.
At_this time of the year, the
scenery is beautiful.. They
then motored to New
Liskhard where they at-
tended an auction sale of
feeder cattle. They report
prices were 'lower than
prices in this area. They
returned home Friday.
Joe and Anne Bills and
children. Paul, David and
Carol from Downsview spent
the weekend with their
parents, Bill and Marg Balk -
will at their summer home in
Port Albert.
Ken and Nancy Doherty
and son Evan from Timmins
are visiting at the home .of
their parents in Port Albert.
Nancy will ,be spending
several days at her parents's
home while her 'mother,
Bessie Bellinger is a patient
in hospital.
Bill and Marg Balkwill of
Downsview and George and
Kay Fennell of Hamilton,
summer residents of Port
Albert, recently enjoyed a
four-day trip to the Sault Ste.
Marie area and the state of
Michigan, travelling by bus
to Tobermory, .then by the
Chi Chi Maun ferry. to South.
Baymouth and continuing to
the Soo where they boarded
the Algoma Central Railway
train with its 22 coaches and
1400 passengers on the 85
mile trip to the Agawa
Canyon with the breath- .
taking colors of fall. They
went on to' visit St. Ignace,
Michigan and took' •a ferry
ride to the unique Mackinac
Island. The village of
Mackinac is.famous - for
fudge makinand many
stores to attract the buyers.:
The interesting crossing of
the Mackinac bridge, the
colorful scenery in the state
of Michigan and the crossing
at Port Huron concluded an
interesting trip.
A surprise 40th wedding
anniversary party for their
parents was given by Anne
Bills of Dowlsview and
Karen Hutchinson at the
home of Karen and Barry
Hutchinson in Brampton,, on
Saturday, October 2.
Margaret Lednor and
William Balkwill were
married October 3, 1942 at
the Port Albert United
Church. Fifty friends and
neighbours attended from
Barrie, Blyth, Clinton, Blind
River, Hamilton, Hanover,
Downsview and Brampton.
.The bridesmaid, Kay
(Fennell) Lednor attended.
The evening was spent with
music and dancing. A buffet
table was centered with a
beautiful anniversary cake.
Many messages of
congratulations were
received. Marg and Bill
thanked their family and
friends for sharing the happy
occasion with them.

Phillip Durand of RR 1,
Zurich was named as the
Huron Farmer of the year.
In the federation since he
started farming, Mr. Durand
helped to organize various
commodity boards, such as a
hog board, wheat board,
white bean producers
marketing agency, chicken
and broiler boards. He has
filled various executive
positions in the organizations
and was active in . a com-
mittee to stop a power plant
being' built in Huron County.
He also served as a delegate
to the Porter Commission
hearings. A former school
board trustee, Mr. Durand is
also a member of the
Knight's of Columbus.
During the evening, the
federation's past presidents
received pins. The past
presidents are, Jack Staf-
ford, Mason Bailey, Doug
Fortune, Adrian Vos, Allen
Walper, Merle Gunby and
Gerry Fortune.
