Members met at 10 am, to review the Tweedsmuir and Goderich scrap , books brought from the Archives Room of the Huron County Library. At p.m. the. W.I.Ode and Grace was sung followed by a . pot -luck hmcheon. Special place mat cwt winners were Mrs. Jean Schram and Mrs. Phyllis McTaggart. At 2 p.m. the National Anthem was sung followed by the repeating of the Mary Stewart Collect° • The roll call, `Nationality of Your Great - Grandparents', was an- swered by 18 members and two visitors. A collection of 'Pennies for Friendship' for Associated Women of the World was taken. An in- vitation from Wingham Women's Institute to attend their 80th anniversary celebration was accepted Mrs. Erma Anderson read a . poem, 'Remember When'. ' The topic p -by-' Mrs. Celia Taylor and Mrs. Phyllis McTaggart, 'Eighty- - one Years of Achievement', _. _.. was read by Mrs. Taylor, Mrs, McTaggart, Mrs. Erma Anderson, Mrs. Myrtle Barker, _Mrs. L. Bannister and Mrs. Stella Crawford. The Women's Institute was founded at Stoney Creek, Ontario in February of 1897 and has grown to include women in68 countries. In Goderich, the Women's Institute was started - in February of 1901. A few highlights over the the years include donations to Alexandra Marine and General Hospital and Sick Children's Hospital; Red, Cross - work during World War I and II; payment of part of the salary of the first school nurse; music in the schools from payment of instructors; music festivals; town band; prizes for Grade 8s from 1921-82.; im- - - provement of Harbor Park facilities; the first public rest room; and improvement of cemetery plots. When requested by the town, the Women's Institute also helped families op relief and served meals before the time of restaurants at fairs and to home coming soldiers. A vote of thanks to the committee preparing they meeting and the singing of God Save the Queen closed. the meeting. Children's program planned The Blyth Centre for the Arts has announced its most exciting children's program yet; three events for less than the price of two. Co-ordinator Anne Mann explains, "We've had tremendous luck finding varied events and have kept the price down so whole families can attend." The season begins with Alligator Pie on Saturday, December 18 at 2 p.m. The charming poems of Dennis Lee come to life inthis production by Theatre Passe Muraille, directed by Blyth's own Janet Amos. Miles Potter, director of the Blyth hits, I'll Be Back For You Before Midnight (1$80) and St. Sam and the Nukes, will Star in this adventure. Alligator Pie promises to be a delightful holiday season entertainment. Bob. Schneider . has -a. big'., - following of kids across the ountry. He'll play -and -sing, get the children clapping and laughing on Saturday, April 23at2p.m. Finally, Lois, Herb and the Puppcorns will entertain with absurd -looking puppets, music and dancing on Saturday, May 14 at 3:30 p.m. "Three events for $6," exclaims Anne Mann.
