Country Hearts is a foot
stampin' good time and my
choice as favorite at the
Blyth Summer Festival so
far this season.
Ted Johns (He Won't Come
in From The Barn, The
School Show and St. Sam and
the Nukes) has done it again -
be has come up with another
winner. Loeal audiences can
always identify with his
material and laugh at
themselves. -
Much of the credit for this
play must also go to John
Roby (The fife That Jack
Built and Fire On ice) who

The Pig+ .is set in the
Coromodore Hotel in Cantlin
in the wince of 1983. The
Commodore,' could be any
hotei''bar°, h any village in
this area, Ithrtender°George
(Robert Neth) wants his
hotel to have class yet he
shaves and combs his greasy
hair in front of the bar
mirror; His regular
customers get sick on his
floor or pass out at their
tables. And his rooms' up-
stairs lack mattresses for
the beds and have faulty
plumbing.
George starts cleaning up
his bar by first kicking out
Boomer (William Dunlop),
one of his regular customers
who practically lives there.
He admonishes Zip (Marcel
Doucet), another regular, to
lift his glass of beer to his
mouth instead of bending his
head down,to the glass and
sucking off the foam. And on
this winter evening in -1983,
lie has hired a class act to
bring in the customers. It's
poor timing because a fierce
snowstorm allows only the
band members, a rich map
and his mistress and a few
regulars to straggle in.
Characters include Marg
(Janet Amos) as the bar-
tender -waitress who only
stays at her job because she
can'tget another and she has
to support two daughters and
boyfriend Zip. (By the way,
Marg and Zip used to sing
and play fiddle; respectively,
in the Commodore until
George firedthem).

THEATRE REVIEW
Abby Rose (John Rutter),
Sam (Marlen Lewis) and the
piano player ('John Roby)
make up the members of the
bandy Sam Slick and the
Slowpokes. Denise (Denise
Kennedy) is Marg's
daughter, a local girl who is
about to throw her talent
away • by marrying Snag
(Robert King), a loser at
best. Lorne (Claude Rae) is,
a -rich Toronto reactor who
gets storm stayed at the
Commodore with his
secretary m stresss Angela
(Patricia Vanstone).
William Dunlop as Boomer
is the comic highlight of the
play. Denise Kennedy (a
native of Teeswater)
provides the musical
highlight with her rich,
strong voice. Indeed, all the
band members are ex-
cellent, both playing and
singing. You'll really find
yourself tapping your feet or
humming along.
Director Richard
Greenblatt has assembled a
fine cast, comical yet
realistic and touching.
Pat Flood is to be
congratulated on her
detailed set right down to the
missing Tr on the ladies
washroom door. The sets,
which must constantly be
assembled and re -assembled
for the various productions
which run in repertory, are a
source of amazement to me

Rabies, which is spread by
infected animals, continues to
be a serious problem in Ontario.
It is of special concern in
built up areas where domestic and
wild animals can infect children
who come in contact with them.
Children should be warned to
avoid stray pets, as well as, wild
animals, especially if they appear sick or friendly
because these usually are signs that they are rabid.
Pets should be regularly vaccinated, leashed.
and kept indoors at night. You can help to control
rabies by reporting to your local police, humane
society or health unit any pets or wild animals which
are acting strangely.
Do_ not handle your pet with bare hands immedi-
ately
mmedi-ately after it has fought with a rabid animal. Do not
touch dead animals. Seek advice from a veterinarian.
Contact your doctor or health unit immediately if your
child or pet comes in contact -with wild animals.
If you would Tike to know more about rabies write
for a free copy of our pamphlet, ANIMALS, RABIES
ANE) YOU from the Ontario Heal Resource
Centre, Health Promotign and Infrmation Branch,
9th Floor, Hepburn Block, tits Park, Toronto,'
