The Goderich Signal-Star, 1982-08-11, Page 5Not promoting parks`
Dear Editor,
Re: Lack of Tourist Ac-
commodation.
As a tent and trailer park
owner, 1 would like to com-
ment on your front page arti-
cle in the August 4 issue of
the Signal -Star regarding
the shortage of 'tourist ac-
• commodation in Goderich.
Mrs. Adams was quoted as
saying she sent campers out
to Farmers' Fields to camp,
and she,also suggests people
encourage campers to set up
in driveways. By doing this,
she, as supervisor of the
tourist center, is not Iwo -
muting the use of dhe ex-
isting trailer parks in the
• area.
We have A turned away
campers only once this sum-
mer and in fact, the past long
weekend, which she in-
dicated there was no accom-
modations available, we
phoned, the tourist center
and told them we had sites
available.
I know that other parks in
the Goderich area are ex-
periencing a similar sum-
mer to ours.
We build these facilities to
accommodate an average
volume of traffic and it is not
possible to survive financial-
' ly if we were to build large
enough parks to accom-
modate peak traffic on long
weekends. ;The occupancy
rate of the parks in the
Goderich area is low enough
now that we do not• need any
additional facilities in this
ETTERS

area. Let's not encourage
camping m farmers' fields
or in the driveways of our
homes, but, encourage the
use of our existing facilities.
Possibly; the tourist center
could set up.a formal vacan-
cy reporting system for all
tourist establishments in the
area so that they could be in-
formed more fully as to
available accommodation in
our area.

Dear Editor,
Wonder boy is now the in-
stigator of economic mish-
mash. It will the a case of
government -controlled cors
porations and privately -
owned corporations com-
peting for the economic
market.
Example - the
government -controlled CNR
will be able to offer a reduc-
' tion in its prices to the public
because wage and price con-
trols will be enforced.
Privately - owned corpora-
tions and companies will
have to compete with unions
.and strikes, before they ob-
tain the same results .as, the
government, putting them at
a gross disadvantage,
because theyy do not have any
legitimate reason for in-
troducing controls, which
will. result in massive
unemployment and setbacks
economically.
lf they are going to in-
troduce wage and price con-
trols, it should be com-
pulsory for a certain length
of time, for everybody.
The ploy is this: the
'government wishes to
reduce its operating costs to
pay off the debt of approx-
imately
pproximately 27 billion dollars,
and leave the private sector
to fend for itself without any
legitimate backing.
If we have more
unemployment, where is the
government going to collect
its tax revenue? You guess-
ed it! The private corpora-
tions. I would strongly ad-
vise the unions to soft peddle
their demands, and beat the
government at its own game.
sincerely,
N.J. Minaker
Says present referendum useless
Dear Editor,
Some municipalities are
holding a • referendum on
municipal ballots - for 'ex-
ample Goderich Council
debated asking voters — 'Are
you in favor of nuclear disar-
mament? This I believe is
' useless.•
I would suggest a more
logical approach would be:
REFERENDUM
1. Are you in favor of re-
questing through the United
NationsOrganization 'a
study by all nations on the ef- world-wide scientific danger
fects of.nuclear warfare? to mankind.
N. T. Anderson,
2. Are you In tavor of a
freeze by all countries cur-
rently producing nuclear
weapons?
3. Are you in favor of joint
action by all the nuclear
powers in co-operative
reduction of their nuclear
arsenals? •
Only by understanding the
.problem; halting its spread-.
and reducing the possibility
of its use can effective steps ,
.be taken for control of this
