- No doubt most of us have
Church
been in a group when some
would remark that those
were 'the good old days.' In
the history of Ashfield
Township, we find that the
township bought its first
grader in 1940 for $5,510.
Harold Stewart was the first
operator at 25 cents per
hour. The grader was placed
in storage for the winter and
the insurance was not re-
quired while in storage. In
1948, day ,labour was 55 cents
an hoar, grader operator 60
cents and man and team 70
cents: Perhaps some of our
readers would like to write
us and tell "ars what they
thought were `Those good old
days.'
Last Sunday we were ad-
vised that it was necessary
to organize a human chain to
rescue a male swimmer who
had esperienoed sorne dif-
ficulty with the undertow at
the mouth of the river and
Lake Huron. This is a pro-
blem area for swimmers and
obviously one to avoid.
