( Photo by Joanne Buchanan) Sunset Club Couples tournament held BY MARLENE McDOUGALL We have been fortunate to have such terrific weather lately, which helped con- tribute to a super couples invitational on Saturday. Eight people entered the tournament with low gross winners, Della and Tony Bedard. Low net .were Julie and Dale Kelly from Forest: Other Sunset winners were, Rosemary and Don Arm- strong, Chris and Brian Reeve, Art and Dorothy Bourdeau, Ellen and Stan Connelly, Pat Dockstader and Daye Ma Si ,- Joan and Bob McDougall, Shirley and Paul Baechler, Thora McCabe and Harold ,McPherson ' and Howard Baker. Many thanks to Ellen and Stan Connelly, Mary Lynne and Stan Telford and Joan and Bob McDougall for making the couples a suc- ' cessf ul event. - The Men's interclub was held on Sunday. Sunset is in , third place but we are still hoping to achieve more points at the first interclub m Walkerton.,. Closest ..tothepin was Don Armstrong. Second low gross was Bob Greer and third • low net, was .Pete Teichert. There were 57 players out for Men's Night on Tuesday. Low gross was Brian Reeve and low net was Steve Graham. Closest to the pin was Issy Bedard. First flight winners were, Bob. McDougall, Tony Bedard and Leroy Bedour. Second flight , Bill Yungblut, Paul Corriveau and Bob Demp- sey. Third flight, George Williams, Art Bourdeau and John Scott. There will be a Men's four ball best ball on August 4 with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. with a meal to follow. Keep trying' folks. It could be you! Meantime, here are , the results of the many activities this week. . Monday, July 19 was a perfect summer evening for men's night with '46 men participating. First low net was Don Stewart - who has a very surprised wife! Don Edward, and Art Mountford tied for second with Ross Patterson placing third. Other winners were Steve Durst, Jack Gould, Jim Baird, Dan Stringer, Dave MacAdam, Don MacEwan, Don Smith, .Tony Bedard, John Alexander, Bill Hanly, Bill Lumby and Bob McDougall. Closest to the pin on Hole 1 was Fred Looker ,.. again ... and the draw winner was Allan MacDonald. Next week I hope to report that hole -in -one! Tuesday, July 20 was another perfect evening for ladies' night. Twenty-two ladies turned out . Winners in the first flight were Gerry .Mountford and Marie Huff,. with Doris Paquette best putter. Second flight' winners were Grace Neville, Ardith Brissette and Joan McDougall with Jean Knight winning the putting prize. Third and fourth flight winners were Joyce Shack, Chris Hoffmeyer and Lillian Kelly. Kay Duncan won the -tournament-which-was -held ---P July 21. There were bowlers present from Lucknow, Seaforth and Goderich for this event. At noon a delicious pot luck luncheon was enjoyed by all with Allice Prudham and her group serving. The prizes went to.: Goderich ladies . Paddy Chappell, skip and her partner Peg . Lumsden; second, Jean Lund and partners of Seaforth; and third, another Godericb Team of Willa Williams, skip and Helen Falkiner, lead. On Wednesday, July 21, the Maitland hosted a very successful ladies' in- vitational. Players came from Forest, Ironwood (Exeter); Kincardine; Meaford; Sarnia, Stratford, Saugeen (Port Elgin) and Sunset. Beautiful flowers marked the first tee and the weather was perfect, as 43 ladies teed off. The day reached an, exciting climax when Doris Paquette of the. Maitland and Ann Lit- chenberg of Kincardine had to play off for low gross. They had both come with scores of 87. After six ad- ditional holes, the tie was finally broken in favour of Ann. Congratulations to both girls for some superb golfing. Everyone enjoyed the delicious roast pork dinner served by Debbie Dunlop and her staff. A six -table Howell game was played by the Goderich Duplicate Bridge Club Tuesday, July 20 - Tied for first place were Barb Howe and Marg Hall with Audrey Tobin and Helen Gardner at 611/2 points. Third were Arlene Gibbons and Theresa Donatis with 59 points. Fourth were Jean Cook and Verna Worthy with 571/2 points. On Sunday, the Air Canada Couples two -ball was played at the Maitland. The winners of this competition, spon- sored by Air Canada, compete in the semi-finals at North Halton Golf Club on September 17. Seven win- ners from the semi-finals are flown compliments, of Air Canada, to the finals which are held in the winter at Jacaranda Golf Club, Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The Maitland winners on Sunday were Bill and Jean Hanly. Runners up were Bob and Joan • McDougall. Congratulations, Bill and Jean and good golfing on September 17 in the semi- finals'.
