League lacks fellowship
Dear Editor,
Three years ago a new ball
league was formed in
Goderith. It is called the
Goderich Ladies' Slow -Pitch
league and it now consists of
seven teams, an.executive, a
tournament committee and a
lot of hard working,
dedicated coaches and
umpires that help make the
League.
Goderich SHOULD be
-roud of us?
But now we seem to be
running into a lot of disputes,
grodges, a hatred, back -
stabbing, gossiping and the
fundamentals or the
potential of the SPORT are
completely forgotten' There
is no FkeLLOWSHIP.
SPORTSMANSHIP and no•

and sound judgements -are

needed for bettering our
league, All these should be
voiced at our open and
general meetings at a.
c-ommittee Level, not like at a
--war table". More order and
FRIENDSHIP should
happen at our
RECREATIONAL meetings.
Another important thing
that our league needs is full
support, respect and
representation from our own
home teams in out-of-town
tournaments. I was
thoroughly embarrassed by
some of the teams in the
League during the Formosa
slow -pitch tournament last
weekend. We need each'
other's support in order to
bring back our prizes,
trophies and recognition
back to our home town.
I have been told that the
only problem. with being a
--good span- is that you
have to lose to prove it.,
Let's make this a fun -filled
game, a chance to keep fit, a
chance to make new friends,
a chance to better ow -selves.
and let's show our children
what it is like to play in an
adult activity instead of
letting our children shoW us
how to play ball!
Marilyn Aubin,
A Goderich Ladies'
Slow -Pitch
League Player.
s for the hospitality
Dear Editor,
We are delighted . and
proud to have been a par-
ticipant in exhibiting in your
annual "Festival of the Arts
and Crafts" in Goderich July
22- 24.
We wish to commend you
on the very fine _ way your
Festival was organized from
the friendly welcoming at
the registration desk to the
continued interest shown to
us throughout the exhibition.
The kit with enclosures was
greatly appreciated in-
cluding the "Exhibitor"
sticker. We enjoyed and
appreciated the party and
luncheon at MacKay Centre
on North Street and realize
how much planning and
work was involved.
We wish you continued
success in future festivals.
Thank you for your
hospitality.
Cordially,
• Stewart D. Thaler,
Grace ( MacMath) Thaler.

Dear Editor,
One year ago the Signal -
Star wrote an article about
the Homestead Group Home.
At that time, we had only
temporary Licence to operate
the home under the Ministry
of ContailtWity' ''''''''''' •
Service. We are pleased to
announce that the
Homestead has been granted
a permanent licence with
high standing.
We would like to thank the
Goderich community for
their support through our
first year. As well, we ap-
preciate the co-operation
shown by both Public and
Separate School Systems.
We thank our families and
friends for their supportive
encouragement.
Two community clubs
deserve special mention -
The-- Roy-ar Catiadiai"Utton
Branch 109 and the Goderich
Optimist Club. Because of
the donation from the
Legion, we purchased and
installed a dishwasher. This
equipment allowed us to
meet the health regulations
of the Ministry of Com-
munity and Social Services
as well as further allowing us
to increase the number of
children to five. Through the
generosity of the Optimist
Club, we were able to pur-
chase camping and canoeing
gear for our summer
recreation Program.
-The . generosity' and con-
cern shown by both
organizations and the
community is greatly ap-
preciated by the staff and
children of the Homestead
Group Home.
Sincerely.
Ms. BettY Bedard,
Director.
Looking for new officers
Dear Editor,
The coming training year
of this cadet unit will be
commencing in September. I
am looking for persons who
can teach navigation, theory
off flight, weather. airframes
and other piloting ground -
school subjects.
I would request the person
have carrent knowledge on
the subject as part of this
teaching will he for senior
cadets taking' the air
scholarship pilot course and
gliding course, sponsored by
the Air Cadet League of
Canada.
I am also seeking a
female, over 19 years, who
would be willing to come out
to weekend camping trips as
some of our cadets are girls.
For overnight trips, our
regulations decree that an
older female be present.
Our officer strength is
limited to four. Instructors
can be taken on as Civilian
Instructors although the
female can be an officer on
the supemumery list to our
establishment if she wishes.

• Take the hint Pierre
Dear Editor, •
Our wonder -boy is on1"
again a celebrity, being
offered approximately
- $5,000,000 to retire.
In my opinion, he cannot
legitimately accept this
money because it is a bribe,
and it also undermines the
legal process of voting.
If there are individuals
who have money to- throw .
around to support a whim,
the money would serve a
much better purpose if it was
directed into the Canada
Pension Plan, which cer-
tainly has not Competed with
inflation.
As for the P.M:: he must
have received the message,
because I -really do not think
his skin is that thick. He
reminds me of a situation
.where an individual who -was
inebriated, was thrown out of
a dance. When questioned
about it. he said he was going
home. His partner asked
-P.I1 King, Capt.
Commanding Officer.'
' 'Why? ", and he replied "I
had a hint to leave."
