Legion - awards scholarships •' BY NEILSHAW Goderich logien Branch 109 announced this week the awarding of three university scholarships from the AVM Sully and Brandi 109 RCL (Lancaster) Scholarship fund to thire' e Winer students of the Godericb DiStrict Collegiatn Instibite. _lbe seholarsitp commitc- tee awarded these scholar- ships. to Donald Coughlan who will enter his— secotd Year af Meditine at Queen's University n September; to Audrey Vanden Heuvel who is completing her. final year of an Honours Bachelor of Applied Science at the ffnivharsity of Guelph; and to Helen MacKenzie, an Honours Political Science graduate, who is completing a Masters degree in Jour- •nalism at the University of Western Ontario_ To be eligible for this scholarship a student must be a Year Five (Grade 13) graduate of the Goderich District Collegiate and have completed with high stan- ding one fidl academic year towards a degree in either Medicine or Engineering or have completed at least two hill academic years towards an Honours Degree in any program at a »recognized university in Canada. The AVM Sully and Branch 109 (Lancaster) scholarship is funded from the interest on a donation from the Sully Foundation to , Legion Branch 109. This donation made possible th donation of the . Lan er bomber, formerly on view at Sky Harbour Airport, from Branch the Aircraft, 'Heritage Foundation of Mount Hope, Ontario. Applications for this scholarship are received each year at the Branch by June 15. Application forms are available from the guidance office of the Goderich Collegiate or from the secretary of Goderich Legion Branch 109. This year the Branch 109 Bursary Fund awarded in varying amounts. a total of $2,200 ( $1,800 from the Poppy Fund and $400 from the Ladies Auxiliary to Branch 109) to six students who are a son or daughter of a veteran and who are continuing their education beyond the secon- darvlevel. HARBOR REPORT BY RON GRAHAM The Algoport arrived light for salt from Chicago on July 9 and cleared harbor the next day for Quebec City. The Lawrendoc arrived from Thunder Bay July 10 and cleared harbor the same day for ' St. Johns. Newfoundland with barley. wheat and corn.
